Literally the only example you've posted. You have been here less than a week going by your other post. Please spend some time on the server before trying to post things that "Nasomi should do".

Maye you should try setting a good example for new players by being civil and not being outwardly hostile.

People are idiots. Don't let them have input in decision making. They never know what is best for themselves.

Well, being fair to the OP:

The OP asked if players wanted a voting system to signal changes that they wanted made to the server. The forum community resoundedly voted against that idea. So the Voting system got voted down. The suggested system worked.

Because we've seen what happens to games when they start balancing/implementing changes by majority vote from the player base.

To this I say I feel I do set a good example for new players. I've worked my ass off to get what I have, I offer my help to others, I answer questions/post information that is relevant to the discussion.

To the being "outwardly hostile", Mysonne put it best for me. "If I offend you, then I meant to." I really don't care how people view me as I know of my contributions to the server as a whole.

I'm guessing humor didn't translate well to text. I was trying to be both positive towards a new member of the community and tongue in cheek with the rest of ya'll.

I agree that there really shouldn't be a voting system but for a completely different reason:

Nas is a single person who runs this server because he personally enjoys doing that. This means that if we want to continue enjoying the server we have an obligation to avoid diminishing that fun whenever we can. I strongly suspect that a player voting system would result in Nas getting inundated with requests for things that do not fit Nas's definition of fun, result in a lot of extra work, and result in complaining that it takes a single person a long time to complete these ideas.

If Nas had an entire development team to call on then the idea might be worth considering (though even then I would be worried of it causing the server to morph away from the fun Nas sustains it for).

I don't think the idea was a bad idea in general, nor do I think the OP was a fool for suggesting it - there are places where it can work. This is not one of those places nor is this the right game for it (even when it was on retail). FFXI holds such a place in our hearts because it refused to comply with trends and proudly did its own thing - we don't want it to fill our expectations, we want to rise to the expectations Vana'diel sets for us. I tried to express that with levity and failed.

To the OP:
This server was made with a very specific vision: To capture the zeitgeist of early FFXI as it lives in Nas' nostalgia and make that functional for everyone to visit and play in. All of us on the server benefit from Nas's dedication to that purpose and we need to accept that it will not be perfect. Square had a huge team, vast resources, and subscriptions to manage their game. Nas doesn't accept donations, does all of his work alone, and does it for the love of the game.

Nostalgia is a powerful reason this server exists at all and Nostalgia does not generally mix well with change. I think you'll have a great deal more fun if you adjust your expectations accordingly. If this is really not something you want, the earlier suggestion about looking for other servers might turn out to be very helpful. This game rewards teamwork, patience, and dedication. It will take a looooong time to climb your way to the top - because that climb is a huge part of the game and the fun. Settle in an enjoy yourself.

I was thinking since this is a private server of an old school time in this games history maybe we should put a voting system in place to gauge what players want.. For instance in old school runescape they come up with ideas for new content or tweaks for quality of life and let the players vote Yes or No on them and if the vote is a higher percentage No then they dont implement the changes.. Might be an interesting idea for Nasomi to consider, let me know what you think!! :geek:

Nasomi is (afaik) the sole developer on this server. I don't think putting in a "demands" system is going to be particularly desirable for Nasomi. Nasomi already does this all for free on their own, I'm more than happy with that. Just something to be aware of when approaching this server.

Nasomi has said, more than once, he will code it to his dream and his vision. Anyone who wants to come along for the ride is more than welcome.

Think of it as you're driving from New York City to Los Angela's. Anyone along that route is welcome to hitch a ride for as long as they want. Suggestions for minor detours like where to stop to eat are fine, but the destination still and always will be Los Angela's. Now lets say a hand full of people are riding with you enjoying their time. Then one guy stands up and says "I vote we change the destination to Portland!" You don't care about Portland. It's a gross city full of hippies. Not that LA is any better, but you are driving there regardless. Your passengers start complaining that you're not going to Portland. You don't care, they're free to hop off whenever they want, or continue to ride. You're going to LA, and nothing any of the freeloaders say will change that.

This is the mindset of Nasomi, I've known him for a while now, and he's always remained consistent that the goal remains the same for him. People have come and gone, nas has remained consistent. Servers have started, and imploded, while nas has never given up despite the challenges that have come his way. And I respect him for that. Trying to convince him to do something he doesn't' want to do seldom works out for anyone that has tried.
