I'll be honest. If i see someone wearing shit gear just running about, i'll assume its what they'll wear to a party, and may be reluctant to invite them should I see them seeking a party.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I like wearing event items and such when I'm not gonna fight anything, removing gloves and other pieces that would look jarring with them.

How huge is your memory? I usually forget the gear of people I check in less than a minute.

Pretty good for this kinda stuff actually, but there are slips... where i'll see a name and think "I know there's something about this guy..." and invite them anyways cause i just can't remember and then its "OH RIIIIIGHT... THAT's WHY" but its too late at that point :(

It's never too late to kick people.... but! I wouldn't personally kick someone for bad gear. How are they going to progress if nobody gives them a chance?

Besides they could be a great player.

Its based on a level of expectation. For me gear isnt so important as long as they at least try to keep their weapon up to date earlier on in EXP... But some people ive seen in like 50s still using their AF1 weapon and bone gear from lvl 16 thinking they can get away with it because they are a SAM and are just hungry for EXP. They'll get an invite just based on their level.

I scrutinize a lot because I expect a lot from myself. I won't even try to get a party in the dunes unless i'm at least 13. I won't level a job if I don't have a vital Accuracy or WS gear component, or cant afford or obtain the best weapon. I wanna put out the best I can. I wanna be remembered so I can get parties more easily. Especially since i'm on THF now, and its worked! I got from 60 to 72 in 2 or 3 weeks of parties without having to form them myself! I've taken time off from exping to camp for a Patroclus's helm, and then when i got to around 67 -- a Sirocco Kukri. I want people to see that i'm serious and i'm not looking to be carried through the game -- A concept people should really adopt because this isnt a solo quest grind, faceroll game. If 1/6 people are underperforming, everybody feels it.

You found the riff-raff. Congratulations!

Now the challenge is to practice healthy personal boundaries.

For example, whenever Godz sent me a tell asking if I wanted to party, I did not respond with my strong feelings about the repugnant comments he has made to others in-game. Why? Because I didn't want to deal with his crap. So, after telling my LS mates about it (which they found really funny when it happened for the third time, btw), he eventually got tired of asking me to respond and moved on. Or I could have just /blisted him and forgotten about it. We have options. We are resilient.

Wanna know the real reason why people are dicks like that? It's cus there isn't anything else to do on the server. They are bored and don't even know it, so their minds create conflict and mistake it for fun.

They can always quit and go back to retail pay a subscription for a Wow-like experience.

To OP: Go anon while doing other chores so douches wont bother you. And get used to farm before trying to get into parties or you will earn a bad reputation and invites will be rare.

Sounds like a pretty terrible person. Or perhaps they are just socially awkward with no friends, and thought you might take it as a joke. Kudos for ignoring them, I probably would have asked them what their problem is. Hopefully they won't go around doing that to everybody. They should mind there own business about something like what some other player is wearing, when it comes to just walking around town or out and about.

I'm not 100%, but I'd say that could probably be considered as harassment, and able to be reported with a screenshot of the chat.
