You have a point that things feel bad at low levels. There has been an explosion of population and with so many new players fighting the same mobs and getting the same drops, prices are probably pretty low for the things you're selling. Also, demand for the early gear is probably higher than it has been in the past.

Fishing takes some commitment to get up and running, but it will pull you out of that problem (relying on the AH and the ebb and flow of supply and demand).

There is not gil cheat, however. And no conspiracy to cheat new players. It is just everyone trying to make as much money as they can, how it should be.

Most of us had a similar experience and got over it. You will, too. Now, park it and either start fishing or farm beastmen seals. There's no conspiracy.

You realize at most 50% of those players during those times are still playing regularly right? That's also only around 50-150 population if that during the early days of the server. People with the motivation/time will get a lot more done in a short span than those playing casually. When I first started, most NMs weren't heavily camped when I went after them. This is because with 250-300 people on at 3AM EST, there's less likelihood that someone in that group wants to go camp them. This all started changing to a more retail like feel when the Kotaku article came out and things have been getting more and more competitive with each new person.

Tips.

1. Find a hustle(OWNMs, crafting, farming, AH sniping).
2. Do not tell ANYONE about your hustle.
3. Be aggressive while trying to remain civil.
4. Make enough gil to create a new hustle.
5. Repeat.

You gotta grind, if you wanna shine.
