If it spawns in range of us, it's a 50 50 on who gets it assuming we have the same skill. If it spawns by my alt, I just move my hands a foot and a half and the spawn is mine 100% rather than a race for us to get to it. If you're trying to tell me being in 2 places at once isn't an advantage, you're lying to yourself and this discussion.

And to the few people I noticed that said I'm butthurt I was outclaimed on an NM and need to git good, I'm actually new on the server and I've never been outclaimed by a dual boxer, but I've ran past NM spawns and seen matching names many times.

Honestly I didn't read many of the pages on here because I know there's a lot of people who are going full defense mode because they feel like they're getting attacked, but people reacted the same way when they found out their Fisher Price obtained ZNM items were getting taken away by daddy. Nasomi changed his mind on letting people keep their gear, and maybe he's willing to change this outdated rule as well.

If this subject has been settled in the past, that's the past. The server is populated now, and new discussion and a change is needed. That's what forums are for ;)


You aren't allowed to call people idiots in the same post were you insist that forums exist for discussion, yet you admit that you can't be hecked to read and engage in the discussion because you knew full well anyone with two brain cells to rub together and form a cogent thought would disagree with you. That's not a discussion, that's you placing yourself on some imaginary moralistic pedestal so you can shout down at the immoral plebeians you feel are beneath you. Do us all a favor and go play in traffic.

is there even a way to lookup who owns what alt chars?

I dont really make mine a secret, nor do most people i encounter... But there have been a few instances where i was curious who was main character for certain alts i run into :o

Ok so... as a long time MMO player, FFXI veteran, and total newbie to Nasomi. Here are my two cents.

I started late Nov. So far, On my main I have War leveled to 36, Thf to 15, and Sam leveled to 42. On my alt I have Whm leveled to 47, and Rdm leveled to 15. My purpose for having a healer alt is to be able to solo content when I can't find groups, or if I don't feel like grouping. This was probably the original idea when Nasomi had a smaller population. That might not be an issue anymore but even in retail one of the reasons people multi-boxed was to be somewhat self-sufficient. But I can hardly see this has a huge advantage, and this is why.

1. Leveling is far slower, of course.
2. Having to dump money into my alt has actually forced me to spend more time farming than leveling. WHM is expensive for a new player. Lots of spells to learn to stay relevant. I could have just focused my gil into my Sam and just partied to 75 if I wanted to, as many do.

I can see the OPs argument and I understand. It's just that dual boxing is already established and a lot of people do it. You can't really change that rule this late into the game. It would make a lot of people quit and if we're talking about the authentic FFXI experience... we need a pretty active server.

On a side note. Nabutso talks about people leveling too quickly and how that really isn't the essence of the game. While I sort of agree, I really think it ultimately falls on the pacing of the player themselves. I would like to say that I've struck a pretty good balance with both. Early on I did some farming, while leveling, in lower level areas that dropped crafting mats/spells that sold well. Then as I hit higher levels and unlocked quests for certain spell scrolls or equipment, I farmed a lot of it on both characters together. Selling what I didn't use to fund my newer gear as I leveled. Do I have Lizzy boots, an emp pin, or peacock charm? No. But a lot of people forget that this stuff only really makes the leveling process a bit easier and that there is cheaper gear available that will carry you just fine. And once you get higher level you'll find some good upgrades for cheap all the same. I just bought a Light Staff for my WHM which is pretty damn good, even without the MP healing recovery on it.

I've also taken the time to get every outpost warp as soon as Bastok controlled them. Only Xarcabard, Tav, and Sky to go. I ranked to 3 in my nation, barely soloing the 2-3 Dragon with my characters. I have every rep except Tenshodo to 4-9 when Bastok had control of Argoneau (Millicorn) and Bastok was Rank 1 (Cornettes). After all the turn ins only cost me a total 5-7k gil per character. And I have every teleport craig and spell unlocked as well for my WHM.

As a new player here, I have been told several times that dual-boxing is almost imperative with the game. So, why tell new players that if it's not allowed? I'm confused and a bit disappointed if this is how veterans help other players with bannable advice.

lolwut? It's totally allowed, literally written in the rules. OP picked a badly worded rule relating to controlling multiple characters with a single input and decided it was his hill to die on.
