Widen the level sync range so jobs people don't want like THF can take invites for lower-level parties where they still might be somewhat desirable. Would also ease their ability to make their own parties, gives them more players to ask, and a lot of players 60+ probably aren't too inclined to take an invite from a THF because they know right away there will be a THF wasting a slot in the party, but someone in the 40s might go to CN or something.

Bad logic. That literally just gives people more options to invite before they invite the thf. This would hurt thf invites more than it would help

I'd rather xp with 5 people at the previous camp for another level than invite a random thf to my xp pt.

No one has said it yet (I think) but another reason I will take a higher rank over a lower is the chance the player has another job at 75 and merits.
If you're rank 2 - your dagger skill isn't merited, you don't have additional Dex and Str. At level 60, that's 6? merits active? Unless you can staple a hauby to your SH - you are unequivocally the lesser potential choice.

Basically this, tbh. At a glance, a higher rank says: probably spends time farming for better gear, and has a far better chance of coming with additional merits. Lower rank with a high-level job just looks like a red flag to me. Sorry.

7 merits at Lv60, FWIW. 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75.

I'm inclined to agree with OP that rank should be one of a player's lowest priorities. Before I worried about rank, I focused on getting necessary gear, then on exp, then on getting gear for the future, and only then on rank, which seems to be OP's approach as well.

What OP appears to be missing is that this means that, even under his own logic, there are better choices out there. The fact that he hasn't increased his rank means either that he has gotten constant party invites and hasn't had the time/a reason to (which obviously isn't the case), or that he still has gil and gear that he needs to earn.

That's almost 1 pt per day, pretty sick for a thf!

I thought about that last night. A party a day seems above average for THF, even if you're rank 10.

As a mid level thief(59) I can sympathize with the lack of party invites. However, I do realize that it’s the nature of the beast. I have also partied with other thieves that are shit which doesn’t help the cause. Given we’ve all had our bad parties (I know I had been off my game more than once), but I at least made an effort to get an airship pass... I mean Rank 2? Really dude? I’d assume noob or RMT given rank 2.

Even going out and getting good mid level thief gear (rapparree, Swift belt, snipers, specs/pca, leaping/bounding boots, emp pin, sallet, white box weapons, etc), I still expect invites to be scarce. No matter how good I can play the job decently or the fact I can pop off 1k+ distortions.

The other thing to remember is that thf needs it’s support. You get a shitty DD that won’t line up for SATA, your KRT viper bites drop from 650-750 dmg to 350-450. This intensifies a low skill/ low gear thief even more. People will elect to choose a cookie cutter drg, Sam, war given the factors that go with thief.

Long story short. Git gud- this means good gear and go do some missions or quests. Each drop in the bucket will help. Each little contributing factor can help wipe away some of the smear that bad thieves give.

Thief can be a decent DD when played correctly, but we need the skill, positioning or party members and gear to prove that. Or at the very least... An airship pass.

Sorry for the bad grammar and the ramblings. On the phone
