2boxing is life. I dont party with anyone on here unless i know them and know they are capable of making a good efficient xp party. I'm not in the habit of wasting time. I can solo all melee jobs on one character while my other toon heals, and get 12k an hour or more in some cases. Usually up to lvl 65 or so.

My advice to someone wanting this playstyle... Level a rdm on one and melee on another. Don't level two melee at a time, that's just silly. 2 mages at once would work but it might take some creativity in finding mobs to kill.

It's already been said a few times but i'll add it again. Macros make the world of difference. Make specific sheets for solo activity and make specific character macros for PL duties. ie instead of <t> use each party members name in 6 separate macros to heal anyone who might take agro without needing to tab to them. Make haste and cure macros with your other characters name, refresh macros with your rdm's name. I could go on.

You have a tonne of macro sheets. Use them.

hope this helps~

If you're dualboxing a Melee DD + PL, a macro I find useful is:

1. /assist Puller
2. /wait 1
3. /attack <t>
4. /wait 1
5. /follow PL

This macro is for the melee that's in the party, while I spend most of my time on my PL character to heal people, buff, etc.

If you do it right, you hit the macro as the mob is coming into camp, and your character will pull weapons and engage the mob. With auto lock-on enabled, the character then locks-on to the mob, and when the /follow command executes they're actually following the monster because they're stuck locked on: thus, the character follows the monster around if the tank loses hate, etc. Just be sure the target in line 5 doesn't gear swap and you're golden (so in low level parties you can probably get away with using the WHM or BLM instead).

This allows you to spend the majority of your time on the PL, and just tab back to the character when they have TP to WS, or use a JA, etc. When the mob dies, the character immediately runs towards your PL and stays there, and doesn't go running off into monster-infested aggro.

I guess I just still have nightmares of Cronk dualboxing on Kuzco while tanking in our party and BRDing in another party without letting us know. This happened almost every time we partied and our group got sick of dualboxers. We always avoided them unless the dualbox was PLing - but even then I was healing so the PL wasn't doing much.

Then, there was also Tech's streams where he'd miss the majority of SA/SATAs due to dualboxing inside the party and would forget to rest often on his mage, etc. That has been my experience with dualboxers in parties, almost exclusively.

lol.

I don't think it matters. If you are right and I suck. It doesn't matter - that was like 10 months when I first started. I stay off the forums cause they are toxic. Just play your game. If you enjoy DuoBox - then DuoBox. If you Enjoy replying to every single post on the forums - then by all means chime in on everything.

Very few people dualbox and most that do are terrible on both characters at the same time rather than OK on one.

"Don't dualbox" is very good advice. The attitude that everyone should be creates a lot of bad players. Let people who absolutely believe they can do it, but don't encourage those who don't to do it.

Yeah - I think if you're coming to the forum to ask if you should dualbox, it's a pretty good sign you shouldn't dualbox.

I use dual boxing for a variety of things, such as hunting down tough NMs for loot, helping people with missions, farming monsters and exp'ing, either with a PL outside the party or having 2 characters within the same party, and this is only a small amount of things you can potentially do.

You are really only limited by how quickly you can swap between each character and set them up for specific situations. It took me a lot of getting used to dual boxing and initially I didn't do it too often, but now it's hard not to do it.

I'd recommend having 1 character be a supportive character and the other character being a dd or a tank type character; I am quite fond of using my Tarutaru RDM or COR in conjunction with my Galka WAR or other melee job. I am not an expert at dual boxing and I am sure people can do it way better than I can, but in terms of getting what you want without a big party it can be extremely valuable. Things like getting Aht Urhgan blue magic spells is dual boxable with bst and blu but can take three or more players with any other job combination...

Ultimately whether or not dual boxing is worthwhile is if you either a.) can deal with shifting between 2 perspectives constantly and enjoy managing two characters, or b.) have a good static/linkshell/party for doing the content you're focused on

For me I don't mind playing 2 characters at once and getting help for niche things like blue magic is hard, so at the moment dual boxing just seems all the more sweeter.
