Wow they say use composite rod you do realize that its 35k on the AH no newbie is going to be able to afford that.

35k is not a lot of gil... nabutso just posted a great guide to making newbie gil in any starting area. Use that until you save up for a composite rod, or as others have suggested just start off with a clothespole, which using my guide will take you to level 16 fishing. By then you might even have the gil you need for a comp rod. Stop expecting literally anything in this game to be handed to you. If you want it to be easy, this is not the game for you.

Oh give it a rest you freaking joke I bet your friends gave you everything, some people have a job and don't live off welfare where they can play this game 24-7.

Lol why are you so angry man? This game is a marathon not a sprint. No one is forcing you to have maxed out gear in your first week. Take your time with it and farm what you want. If you don't want to farm, again, this is not the game for you. There are no get rich quick schemes... Just put in the work. If you want some startup gil I'll give you 10k right now no questions asked. I, like I said before, like to help new people, and I like for new people to stick around. If you need a handout to stick around I'll shove you a little gil to get you off your feet. No problem.

Also look into the forum post about live streaming the game for 10k gil per hour, I believe either Pepsi or Nabutso post that one.

This type of attitude is going to have less and less people trying to help you. I started with 2 characters and no connections a little over a year ago. I was lucky to find a friendly LS and from Lv.20+ I would spend most of my free time in Giddeus farming for Yagudo Necklaces/scrolls of Mage's Ballad to NPC. I was given 50k when I was level 35ish for delivering a Cornette to a LS member and letting them know I couldn't afford +1 for them.

You're not the only one who started with no friends and not much time. Embrace the grind or find something else.

Honestly don't think people should be allowed to post here if their forum account doesn't match their in-game name. It should be changed. Sorry, Deft. :P

Actually we're pointing out a flaw in the skill up for newbies, it skips out on very profitable for Moat carp in early levels which allows even complete newbies to jump straight into guild making and fund their fishing and their low level gear; all while being 80% as fast.

No I completely agree, I might even change my 'guide.' I was just responding to his post. I thought your (or whoever it was) response about carp was a great idea.

Thank you all for the great fishing advice! I couldn't ask for a more helpful and welcoming community :)

I wanted to ask, is there a way to submit fish for the test to increase your level cap on the craft besides going to Windurst and talking to Thubu Pahroren? Is there any way to do it at the fishing guild in Selbina, for example?

Pretty sure you just have to make the trek to Windurst, but anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

You must go to Windurst.

Also Ariel sounds like the kind of person who achieves absolutely nothing in life and blames it on everyone else. It is an insult to the worlds best mermaid who adventures and perseveres despite her overbearing father and a manipulative sea-witch. 0/10.
