The biggest reason I loved FFXI in retail, was because it was a cooperative game played with friends. My favorite part was leveling with friends/LSmates(static). I'm not sure why you think anyone is looking for sympathy. I am typing my thoughts, not looking for someone to look down on me, and "give" me pity.
It's strange to have a hang up on syncing in the first place. From a "purist" stand point, our server is not era. Even a ten level sync is out of era. You used sync all the way to seventy-five, six times over. Drawing an arbitrary line on how far the sync should be, because it was decided to punish the masses for the abuse of a few, has never made any sense. It's lazy, and far from fair. Why would you assume this is the way, and not question it? Parroting that everything is fine, because you think this is what you're supposed to agree with.
If the server started out without the needlessly constrictive limit, then there was a time Nas supported it. Did it bother you, or anyone then? Or would you have defended it, because you follow everything without question, flip flopping to whatever you think you are supposed to?
The idea that it would ruffle someone, that a small group of six are playing a game together to have a good time, a group that you aren't even aware of existing, makes no sense. When you wander by level synced parties right now, you have no idea what any of the players true levels are. Maybe one of them is abusing the glitch that lets a player sync more than is allowed? You are walking by, happily, not even aware of it. Which would go to show, it doesn't matter to you, if players are more than ten levels apart. If you leveled six jobs to seventy-five, you won't even have to play with synced players. You can choose level seventy-five merit parties all day long, as there are plenty of people that will always want to merit with their shiny gear, and nice merits. Since that is faster for experience points, and also a way to show off your progress (plenty of 75's turn down Caedarva Mire, and other syncs). It's similar to how people think they should decide which people can be together, or what ways people should be allowed to spend their time recreationally, when it's not only, not their concern, but they likely will never even meet the people they want to impose their personal restrictions on.
Why does it give anyone gratification, that others will sit around fishing, crafting, seeking, staring at a moghouse, choosing other activities altogether, or playing in parties with randoms that afk, drop, fake D/C, play horribly, or any number of other unpleasant things, rather than supporting these people play in the groups they want to be in, making stronger connections with newer LSmates? I can only think of two types of people that would be in support of a restrictive sync. A calloused person, that doesn't want the freedom, and doesn't care about other people. (I've seen plenty of people like that on these forums), or someone that never bothers to think, why they choose to support the things they spend all their time supporting. Or why not both?
You make good points but this is quality pasta material. Good luck getting the sync changed.
