Hi,
Everyone please take a moment and relax. It was a question.
A few of the previous posts are a bit heated and this is a simple question that has been asked and many takes on the why not have been given. I've already had to start editing some of the posts and I'd like to not have to do anymore.
My
personal take on this is, Nas is one guy that hosts and runs the server and hardware we are all joining. In addition to his full time job, family and adult type responsibilities (keeping kids off his lawn by chasing them down on his tractor i'd like to imagine) there are the tasks he has for maintaining a server that we all join. It's doubtful that any official discord server will be opened up, as running one of those means that in addition to the Discord Server rules, all additional rules of the server would need to be followed At the end of the day we are in a very gray area (well nah we breaking rules most likely) of the legality of playing on these servers as we bought the game and agreed to the SE rules not to do what we are doing when we all installed the game and started playing it. Discord may also not take kindly to this, but I'm not going to take the time to reread the SE or Discord Terms of Use/Service or reread the SE FFXI ones so I may be wrong.
As for the "it's easy to run one, I have my own/help ruin another Discord,"
Keep in mind that at this time some of, if not all of, the following are balls that Nasomi already has up in the air to juggle to keep things running,
All of which are operatined and ran on his own network and server structure, and not someone else's hosting/servers like a Slack or Discord would be.
* IIRC
* Forums
* WIKI
* (disabled) ticketing system
* Actual Game Stuff (Servers, Code, bug Fixes, Hacking Reports, Exploitation, harassment, content code tweaks/changes, bug reports for actual bugs and not bugged items alike, custom installers and updaters, new account system underway, etc.)
* Website updates (back and front end changes)
Non hosted tasks
* Social Media accounts
* SEO (site advertisements to make sure that the server is one of, if not the first one you see when you serach for servers.)
* Occasional calls about the network to his business ISP host (May 2017 anyone?)
* Purchase of new and replacement network hardware and back up power generation, physical modifications to his own house to handle the power and infrastructure.
I have 0% proof of this, but I suspect all software he has on said network and server and is part of Nasomi Services, so this may be a deal breaker for him.
All of the above, and more importantly, addition to the family, work and life balance mentioned above, there are other things he may be doing that would split his already thin time and make it even more thin. One more item to the list isn't going to have the benefits that this suggestion is likely attempting to solve, but I do see the draw to want something like this. It's likely why many endgame shells have something that they use outside the game, discord/forums/other things mentioned.
As for other things he may be having going on, I've not asked him about
how Vangard is coming along as it seems like he has his hands full with just what he has on his plate right now and we won't see Vanguard. Mad hats off to the one-man army that is Nasomi. I'd have shut the game down by now if it was me as I'd never have a moment for myself and I'd go crazy.
These are my thoughts and opinions, like them, dislike them up to you. I just respectfully request you find a way to tell me how I'm wrong (lulz, but it's my opinion) in a constructive manner.
