Those could be fair punishments. Or not. Context matters.
You are correct, context does matter. So here's the context: Nasomi is one person fixing bugs, tuning the server, and herding a thousand cats (players) more or less by himself. Time he spends hunting down cheaters is time taken away from bug and content fixes. If he even suspects what you are doing is in the wrong, expect a swift punishment. And no, he's not gonna waste anymore time arguing with you. It's zero tolerance because he literally has better things to do, and time spent smacking one misbehaving player on the nose is robbing hundreds of others of content development time.
So, if you have to ask if a thing is against the rules...just assume it is, and don't do the thing.
That's actually your context and while yes you make a point. Yet you seem to refuse to see that not everyone likes to assume, as things that was okay on a retail server for say is not okay on Nasomi's server. In which he is our lord and savior who teaches us the ways of what is right and wrong in this world we dwell about. Not the man writing a book of what they think he said or believes.
No, that isn't "my context." That is objective reality. Nasomi really is the only one currently doing all of the game mastering, bug fixes, content tuning, job adjustment, and all of the associated upkeep and maintenance with an MMO. Yes, he has Petz in the role of Moderator for the forum. He has Nabutso helping out in a sort of tech support role on a voluntary basis. All the rest of the maintenance, upkeep, overhead, account management, and back end stuff that Square Enix had dozens, possibly hundreds, of employees doing? It's all Nasomi. I don't even think he has Deadwing doing coding assistance anymore.
Now, given the fact that Nasomi doesn't seem to respond to the forums, you have a handful of options. You can ask us, people that aren't Nasomi, what we think is/isn't allowed. Which is a shot in the dark, and when it comes to questionable content can easily land you in Mordion Gaul indefinitely IF we accidentally steer you in the wrong direction. You can ignore our best guidance (assume that it's verboten and don't do it) and skirt the rules. Which will inevitably end up with people on the wrong side of the rules and indefinitely stuck in Mordion Gaul. Or you can do the smart thing. Which is exactly what I told you.
If you think for one second the activity you are about to engage in is questionable - don't do it. If you ignore that common sense directive, and skirt the line anyway, don't be surprised when you catch Nasomi's ire and get your character terminated. I don't know about you, but I have 76 and some odd day's playtime on one of my characters. Personally, I'm not going to risk getting that nuked for something as stupid as fishing in one zone while logging in another on an alt. The time spent is mine, nasomi isn't going to shed a tear if I do something dumb and he feels compelled to terminate the character as he has done to so many others at this juncture. He won't shed a tear about erasing yours either. It will hurt YOU more than it hurts HIM.
