SO.... I tried searching for this, but apparently my search words were too broad.. Since I started playing on Nasomi about 7 weeks ago, I've had random disconnects and crashes here and there.. However, over the past week or so.. I've noticed that my game is just randomly freezing and crashing a LOT.. There are two different types of crash that i'm noticing.

1) i'm playing on one monitor with random other stuff on 2nd monitor.. Both monitors will blink and then game freeze/crash.

2) just random ass crash out of no where.. game freeze for 1 sec and game window close.

I'm not sure if this is something with my system or the game and if it is with the client if its something that can be fixed/has been previously addressed. Any advice/help is appreciated.

Sounds like ur system, I know this sounds weird but turn your screensaver off, and the ability to put the hard drive to sleep to save power and.... If ur on a laptop possibly some battery saver stuff. Anything that will override the system idle process will crash the client on most systems, and the client commands will not stop some computers from going to sleep. If you need to save power at other times you can create a power consumption profile and just put a shortcut to it on ur desktop, swap to 1for this game then to your other one when you're done. Make sure to do your homework before messing with any of that stuff and proceed at your own risk.

This is literally happening with nothing going on but me running around. So screen saver set to 10 minutes inactivity shouldn't bother that right?

Some rigs it dont some rigs it does, idk what makes them different but some people (like myself) has to turn screensaver off entirely, even walkin around town, or being in a fight doesn't stpp my screen saver from trying to come on, and soon as it does my client dies, then soon as the client dies the screensaver dies lol, only activates for a split second. I got in the routine of turning it off entirely a few years ago to stop it from crashing me.

Also a fault with the boot.exe supposedly that runs poorly and will eventually cause ffxi to jump from low usage to high CPU usage, eventually just crashing entirely.

Run Ashita as admin, and make sure to disable the windows feature that dims programs in the background.

Hate to bump an old thread, but I have this issue constantly as well. Boot.exe is maybe 10-20% usage normally, will suddenly jump to 50-70% and stay there, and when dualboxing causes my entire system to chug, 100% CPU usage. Only way to fix it is to close one or both instances of the game, possibly restart my PC as well. Any way to combat this other than just restarting my system every time it happens? Makes dualboxing anything important fairly annoying, and doing so during instanced content like a BCNM or Limbus risky too, as I'm either losing one character or dealing with horrible stuttering and low frame rates due to maxed out CPU usage if/when the issue crops up.

scaggles, i know this is not the solution you want, but i use two actual (i.e., not virtual) machines. one of my machines is not advanced enough to run two instances of ffxi. is yours?

are you at the entrance to the zone when you login?

if you arent, its either your machine power settings or internet

check advanced power options and make sure hard drive isnt powering down after 15 mins, if thats not set its your internet dropping you most likely because someone else is sharing your ip. You can fix this by unplugging your modem for 45 minutes and then plugging it back in.

If this does not fix it, delete all your chars, uninstall your game and bury your computer in your backyard and pee on it as soon as possible. Then build a wigwam or find a cave and become a caveman asap.
