Am I correct that you can only have one main and one alt that both can go anywhere, but anything beyond that is confined to towns? What stops someone from making more than 1 alt to leave town to do quests for something like expensive scrolls? I enjoy the farming and grinding of the game myself, but sometimes I run into people that talk about doing something like that. What stops them from making an alt to go get scrolls and then deleting the alt and repeating or even doing it beyond the 1st alt? Is this harder than I think to make Gil from? I just hate the idea that I farm legitimately and someone might do something as cheap and fake as something like that.

The only real thing stopping you is how dreadful it is to level a new character up, then get fame in the cities. Then go out and actually do those quests. For like 150k-300k for a scroll. You'd be much better off just farming/mining/fishing for $/hr

Didn’t think about the fame, good thought.

It's actually very easy to get the fame and prereq's done for some of the scrolls in Windy and Bastok specifically, and I'm a little ashamed to admit it but I did it a few times since I was experienced in the method from having done it in retail. Then later someone in game mentioned that it was ban worthy, and pointed to a post here on the forums confirming it.

So I just swapped to fishing like so many others do, which has the benefit of not having to wait for AH sales and worrying about flooding the scroll supply and the undercutting and price drops associated with that. Having hit Fishing 100 on my main before the huge changes Nasomi made to combat botting, and comparing my more recent leveling to about Fishing 80 on my alt, it is a very mind-numbing grind to get to the top money fish. But you will be making good money for the majority of that climb, and once you get 76+ you have a way to make fast gil in spurts... and always have the option to engage in other types of farming for those times that fishing just becomes so boring you wanna gouge your eyes out.

It's not allowed here (now - previously it had even been recommended...) but it's a silly way to look at it as people doing it "cheap and fake" - if it were within the rules, and it was that good of a source of money, enough people would do it that the prices would drop. Things would reach equilibrium. But it's not even that great of a money making scheme. Take Warp for example - only 17 have sold in the past 15 days, at 50k per. There's scrolls in stock, so it's not limited by a lack of supply. Even if it only takes 1 minute to get a warp scroll, and you could repeat it without breaking the rules, you're still limited on the number of buyers. The market won't support more scrolls at that price point. You could maybe lower the price and people would go for it, but you're probably not going to make up in volume what you do in dropping the price.

You can make more money per day from farming just about anything without TH as you can doing a handful of the warp scroll quests. Invest time in leveling up fishing, or leveling THF, and you'll beat it easily.

As others have stated if you do not want to level thief you can do fishing or I would also suggest mining. At level 50 you will not get aggro in Maze Of Shakrahmi and you do not even need mining gear since it is excavating. When I first hit 50 a couple of years ago I lived in maze and made several mil before I ever even did LB 2.

main: goes anywhere
alt: goes anywhere
mule: moves toward cities or mini-towns, such as norg

you can have all three of these characters logged in and triple-boxed simultaneously. because where they are allowed to go is somewhat overlapping, you will usually only see multi-boxers with their mains and alts. however, a player's mule is totally able to be logged in and doing things as well
