Nah it's not a scam if the player got the drop, more like over charged. Now scamming the LS out of 30M is a different story.

Stealing is easy. You gain trust and then you break it at the right time. Nothing respectable or difficult about it. Basically, it appears this person's reputation was worth a measly 30m.

New Theory.
Kira used his AMEX (Fireangel style) to purchase gil. Being a savvy user, to avoid getting easily banned for RMT the seller set it up as a guise of "'Sell' this armor piece no one in your LS wants". Unfortunately it somehow was leaked that it was a large transaction, because Kira isn't as savvy, so his LS blew up because they all wanted a slice.
Kira got extra defensive that he earned it and everyone is trying to leech off his hard work because he spent real money for it. (we all know kira does nothing, so no other excuse for him to get this defensive).
