Hi! I'm new in the game and I'm panning to play it seriously in a few weeks. Yesterday I logged for the first time in the game to check everything and seems that all works perfectly, but I realized that when I started the game any kind of opening cinematic appeared, and the same in therms of story content of the city I picked up, I just popped up in the middle of the city. Is this normal in the private servers? I know in the retail version of the game the story content appears, and I understand that in the private servers there are modifications but I want to know if I will be able to follow the story of the game here.

Thanks a lot for the info!

This game literally tells you nothing and shows you nothing. It wants to let you do whatever you want.

If you want some cutscenes/story to do, check out the rank missions. The gate guards will give you them. Can google it and see where to go and what to do.

You can also just equip your weapon and go outside and start wacking things to level up. You can run around talking to npcs in cities. You can ask others on the server for linkpearls for social connections. Its really up to you to choose what youd like to do

Many of FFXI's cinematics / cut scenes play on Nasomi. Although I think a few of them have incorrect dialogue lines.

Actually I just went out from San d'Oria and started to kill mobs since lvl 4 but I suppose it is storywise content right? My question is: if I play on Nasomi I'm going to skip anything in therms of story?

Thanks a lot!!

See you out there ;)

I don't think you'll miss anything really. And tbh, the storyline isn't what we play the game for. It's some seriously milquetoast high fantasy fluff, to be blunt. The value I get out of it is just the way that it makes the world seem more alive. You'll travel eeeeeeverywhere in the world eventually, and knowing some of the history of things as you go can make the scenery and mob placements more interesting.

Keep killing things up to lvl 12-15. Then switch to another job and do it again. Do that as much as you can, learning macros and gear swaps, before getting into a party. Explore a LOT. Always carry a reraise and warp scroll, and if things are looking grim, pop one of them.

So in this game you don't progress through the story, right? It's more open, I guess. However I suppose it is a main story quest that you have to do, or not? Thanks for the tips!

Story is required to access endgame areas, but it's generally smartest to progress your character to the level cap of 75 before worrying too much about that. Figure out how to farm, equip your character appropriately, use extensive macros to become an asset to a party, and then round the rest out over time.

When you hit lvl 18 you can get your subjob, which is huge. At 30 you can unlock advanced jobs, which is another big step forward. You can hit rank 3 in your nation pretty easily by the time you're 30. Keep an eye open for people shouting for missions you're on, and ask linkshell mates if they'll help you with yours. Chains of Promathia missions start around lvl 30 with the promyvion areas. If you can find a group doing that when you're able to access them, jump on it because they're a pain and groups don't do them often.

Once you hit 50, you need to complete a quest to progress to 51. At 55 that happens again, and so on every 5 levels until you max at 75. That stuff and lvling keep you plenty busy before you really even need to think about storyline.

That's my view at least. I know others can really enjoy the storyline, but to me it's just a nice-to-have instead of an integral part of the game.

Most story cutscenes for all the things implemented work fine, I think what he meant though was the opening cutscene for your nation When you start. I can’t even remember Bastok, but Sandoria introduces Curilla and the knights, Windy had a cutscene with the Star Onions and the cat thief. It’s a shame they don’t work if you’ve never played the game before.

Yes, exactly. It's a shame but definetly I'm loving my first experience in this game like it was in the past, so it's worth to me, but being a ff lover story is important. I'm going to pay the retail too, so I will experience the story as it has to be experienced, but I will play here because I love the acomplishment feeling I'm having for every single thing I figure how it work.

Yes that's a thing which happens here, once you create a character you get plopped into your starter town without the proper introduction cutscene. I'm not sure if the game also defaults to the introduction cinematic being turned off as well.

For the most part that's the only difference, the game's story is fully functional and is progressed through completing Missions and is pretty good compared to most MMO's.
