If level sync only took into account the people who are actively in parties or have their flags up, it would give a MUCH more accurate depiction of things.

I don't expect Nas to see this or for it to make any kind of impact, but it seems silly that the sync range is simply based on how many characters are logged in.

We all know that there are scores of mules, vendor characters, and other non-xping PCs online that inflate our sense of how many players are 'active' at a given time. So linking the level sync function to the total number of online players, when level sync is explicitly for xp purposes, seems really counterintuitive. Especially with the dips that the server population can see these days.

If level sync only took into account the people who are actively in parties or have their flags up, it would give a MUCH more accurate depiction of things. Say there are 1000 people supposedly online, but only 200 of them are in a party or seeking a party. Base the sync range on the 200 people rather than the deceptive 1000 and have the sync range vary based on the ratio of the two.

So if the population ratio is 200:1000, which breaks down to 1:5, let's just arbitrarily make the sync range 10.
At a ratio of 1:8 make the sync range 20.
At 1:10 make it 30, and so on.

Just seems like a much smarter way to do the whole sync thing, but hey what do I know I'm just a bear in a trenchcoat.

This has been answered a lot of times. The short answer: It is.

Nas took a look at the factors that he thought that mattered, and his sync ranges took into account the number of AFK/non-xp’ing people. The fact is, he basically wants sync range to be 10 besides in rather extreme scenarios at this point.

His response has been, and would be again, that if you wanted him to only consider non-AFK people, people that are seeking, or excluding alts.. the new thresholds would be lowered to the point that the sync range is still 10 based on whatever metric you’d like to use.

(I think it should be 20, 100% of the time)

lolbst, I think your logic coupled with the lvl 11-74 baseline would be fantastic! (rather than the whole gosh darn server, as it is today)

If this new logic means the thresholds would need to be updated, so be it, at least we'll feel better knowing the logic is better than "Whole server" with no attention to the finer details which should encompass the PT Level sync function.

My post on this matter, but not as granular as your idea. My idea was more of a simple/easy adjustment to the existing lvl sync range. 11-74 would remove mule-mules, and end-game folks from the equation, however, alt-mules (higher than 10, lower than 75) would still be an issue.

I love that kind of idea too, Zel. 11-74 would do a huge amount to make the sync range more reliable. There would be some 75s that are down to merit in the mire/etc. who'd be left out, but it's a really solid idea.
