I'm curious why so much content on the server is gated against the new player base. I played FFXI at North American PC launch and it feel like the systems and methods on this server are kind of a middle finger to people who didn't join at the start. I know people in the FFXI old player base love the ego fed (I was there first, I did it best) moments but shouldn't a game also be fun and rewarding?

End gripe.

There is a whole event of card delivery to get one of the best items in the game in this event, the tidal talisman. It's the thing that everyone has been looking forward to for months. And it's 100% obtainable by every char and mule in the game. Sure, you may have to run to jeuno to get it, but that's certainly not impossible, barely difficult, for a level 1 mule no less. And it takes a good amount of time to do, exploring cities and trading cards and getting items.

This is a new event, stacked on top of the old event, seemingly for players that "have everything" because the server is 7 years old at this point, older than the retail servers were by 2x. This seems aimed at players that have done everything. Seeing that these events do repeat, year after year, you'll likely have an opportunity to finish this event next year if you're not able to this year. However I'm almost half way through in only a handful of zones, I'm sure if I scrutinize the odd mobs that don't get hit often, I'll be able to get real close, if not get to 100.

How does one obtain the tidal? Because i've done all the card stuff(At least I think I did) I obtained the whole dream +1 set and it now asks me to slay 100 different type of mobs. Is that for the tidal or is that something else?

you need to get 5 more cards and trade them in jueno, you can get more cards from your alt or mule.
