I'm planning on getting a gamepad with a mini-keyboard below the standard joypad buttons.
Here are some examples of the gamepads I plan to get-
I am not sure how the keys from the gamepad will be registered on the computer. I am assuming they will either count as virtual keyboard key presses but it is highly possible that they will be considered custom joypad buttons.
In either case, I would prefer to map certain virtual keypresses to certain buttons on the gamepad. For example, being able to map
the "Ctrl" and "Alt" modifier keys to the L1 and R1 triggers. This way, using action-bar commands like crtl+6, ctrl+7, ctrl+8 etc
would be less cumbersome than it currently is with a standard straight keyboard as it would only involve holding down a trigger button and then pressing one of the number keys on the gamepad.
Is it alright if I use the Joy2Key program to convert my gamepad buttons into keyboard keys while playing NasomiFFXI? I'd like to know before I order the controller and try to use it with this game.
