I am so happy to be a part of this community and to start my career over again in ffxi! Just to get a good convo going, what's one of your best/funnest memories from playing this game?

For me it would have to be when I hit level 25-30-35 with my THF! There was nothing more satisfying than obtaining FLEE and being able to outrun any mob that got too aggressive xD. I used to use it all the time and just run around Sandy. I also remember getting SA and TA and learning how to use it effectively. I remember I was in Yuhtunga Jungle with a PT and we had a PLD as the tank, I stood behind him and used SA+TA and a WS and all of a sudden i did a RIDICULOUS amount of damage, soooo satisfying! What's one of your favorite memories?

Logging in on launch day. Just walked around Sandy and the outdoors, with my sound on max and watched the time pass. Nothing will beat that feeling

I'll never forget back in the day (2006) my friends and I set up a static party. I was excited to finally play as a SAM. We get to the dunes and I was designated the puller. I wiped out the whole party with my first run. They still call me master puller to this day.

I was super into cooking and making bait for my LS. They still call me the master baiter.

Oddly enough, I bought this game back in 03 and played it on Dial up, on a PC with 64MB of RAM. Watching the download was the biggest lesson in patience for me, as it had to update for 3 days.

Beyond that, I ran into a few high lvl JP players who spoke English and invited me to their group, showed me the ropes, and gave me a 5k to figure out stuff. Still talk to a few of them, and I can picture all of their characters/gear.

My favorite moment would have to be the first time seeing and beating that Dark Dragon at the end of the Journey abroad mission. I had never experienced anything like that prior and the relationships created during that event were tremendous.

I was a member of a very small but elite linkshell of high level NA players that were kinda sick of endgame drama and were just hanging out in a social LS. Probably about 6-8 of us.

One night a member of the LS got a /t from a JP player he had met recently. (FUNFACT: he plays on Nasomi) He and about 4 of his jp friends had pulled KB and needed help bringing it down. Well, we all hoofed it down to BD and brought down the big baddie together with about 100 people watching.

The faf/nid window was just opening so they asked us if we wanted to go along. Sure!

We go there, win pull on a faf and boom, Ridill. Thus was born one of my favorite (and very short lived) HNM LSs built of 50/50 NA and JP members, Coloration.

For about 2 months we won practically every pull and only had about 18 members, all great nice older people with lots of skill and very little attitude. We blew up after that into a huge group and renamed ourselves, but that original LS was the most fun I'd ever had in FFXI.

My friends and I were grinding hard to Captain rank when ToAU was released, We were doing our last First Lieutenant boss fight for Captain rank when we had him down to about 1% but we ended up wiping, I was on Whm at the time and had reraised back up just as the last member went down, I used the last of my mp for a Dia2 and ran like a bastard, having an Aristocrats coat and /smn I was getting decent MP while kiting, anyways this went on for a while until finally I was cornered, watching as the boss came barreling down the small corridor, listening to my friends laugh as they knew my end was about to come when, it happened.... the boss fell over dead moments before coming into auto attack range.

Runner up memory goes to a Christmas Eve night, faffy spawned and was just sitting there, nobody had the numbers to kill it, a rare moment on the server when my ls ( NA mostly ) and a JP shell teamed up to kill him. Was a nice moment to see all the dislike for one another put aside, friendships were made ^.^

I had this once on like Thanksgiving afternoon.. KB popped on the first day he could, when everyone there just had a party to kill Behemoth. You're right, it's a cool moment that no other game has ever replicated.
