So I joined a party last night and when I get to camp realised I was above the 10 level sync gap. Told them I would leave so they could find someone in the level gap, and had a fairly newer player telling the other newer players in the group that it was okay to break the level sync gap as long as it was on the low end of levels instead of on the higher end and told the others in the group not to worry about it nothing would happen to them because Nabutso had told the player arguing with me over the subject that it was "ok." And I didn't know what I was talking about.

I still went ahead and left for my own peace of mind, I know plenty of players who have got dropped to level 1 for breaking the sync, and I was around the day it got implemented but have also been away for almost 2 years and just recenty got back. Has something changed since I've been away? Is it cool to break the level sync now?

The person was so adamant about being told they were wrong they continued to blow me up in tells after I removed myself with things like "I just sent Nas a message I'll be sure to send you all the screenshots tomorrow of his answer so you can see how right I am." Then bet me a million til that I'll probably never see that they were correct.

So can anyone confirm??

I will try to be as clear as possible here.

It is a max level sync gap. Not a max level difference in party.

If you try to sync to a lv 11 party member, but the lowest party member is 10 - yet you are lv 21, you will encounter a bug! You won't be able to sync to the lv 11 because it checks the lowest level party member instead of the level of the sync target. This is an unfortunate bug which causes the misunderstanding which you're experiencing now.

So, to circumvent this bug (note: as above, this is not a circumvention of intentional game mechanics, but instead a workaround for a bug!) you can remove the lv 10 member and then sync to the now lowest lv 11 party member. After syncing, you can re-invite the lv 10.

The lv 21 and everyone else will be sync'd down to 11, while the 10 is still level 10. This is all OK, and not against the rules. Just a wonky workaround to a bug.

Additionally, past events where you could actually circumvent the gap may still be echoing in people's minds and causing further misunderstandings - there was a bug that was exploited where you could sync from any level to any lower level. This has been fixed, and is no longer possible. What you'd be doing if you used the workaround above is NOT the same as the exploit people used to use, and yes, were deleveled/jailed for.

Hopefully, this will put an end to this really unfortunate misunderstanding from happening again. Nas shouldn't need to be contacted for clarifications about game mechanics or rules - and I'm not the only other person who could have answered this question for you.

Interesting, so the 10 levels difference isn't actually the rule? It's legal for me to party with people 12-13 levels under my actual level as long as I sync the group before inviting the lower level members?

Well there is another work around bug to lvl sync. I've had the exp where I had a lvl 23 synced group. We invited a 50 something while under a 10 max sync and somehow he got synced. I think we synced and he zoned into the same zone after synced to us. I disbanded after a few pulls thinking this might b a bandable situation.

It’s so much simpler to just say: No one is allowed to sync down further then the currently established sync range.

It has nothing to do with everyone else. If you are level 25, you can not sync to anything lower than 15. Not everyone in a given party has to be exp’ing at the same level.

That was the exploit before it was fixed, about a year ago now. It will not sync people who are too far out of level range if they zone in now.

Yes.. you can party with anyone any level you want. It's syncing more than 10 levels which is not possible (programmatically, you are restricted from doing so - it's not a 'rule').

Its not completely fixed. I accepted an invite by a group of new players I was helping when they pulled an NM in Highlands. Since I was healing them along to help out I had hate on the NM. When I took the invite to kill it, it synced my 75 BLM to level 10 and NM w00ped my ass. So yeah. I died to a Highlands NM as a 75 BLM. It also synced me to a low level group when I was in the PT already but teleport-dem'd myself and was synced low when I zoned in.

Maybe you're talking about the Nas-specific OWNMs? These NMs can and will sync your level to theirs no matter the difference. The max sync gap only applies to syncing initiated by the party itself.
