Hey guys,

So I have been playing this game for about a week or two.
My current levels are RDM17, WHM10. (so close to sub job!)

I have been having very hard time making gil for spells/gear as a low level character. Low level gear (lv12-20) is quite expensive on Auction House. For example even thought there is like 30+ items of one type, no one is dropping prices.

I've been doing following to make/save gil:
- Using NPC shops to buy spells/armor when possible
- selling useless items to NPCs for low gil
- selling stacks of crystals to AH
- farming basic NMs like Amanita
- using conquest points to buy gear I can wear

The next thing I'm thinking of is using my Conquest points to buy some basic armors/weapons and sell them on AH.

Is there anything I'm missing I could do? I must be missing something!

Anyway, the game is amazing overall. Loving it. Thanks for the help.

You're doing the right thing. I wouldn't try to make money off Amanita, though. If you look on websites like FFXIclopedia you can get an idea of monsters that drop valuable items and then check in on the AH price/NPC price and the demand for it.

What city did you start in?

You're currently at the most challenging level range to earn the money you need.

A 75 thf can bring in roundabout 100k/hr farming, a 75 rdm likely around the same doing sky triggers or something. At your level range though if you can make 10k in an hour you're doing pretty good.

If you level in sarutabaruta silk thread can bring in a bit of bacon. Although the guild sells it in such high quantity here the newbs can't AH theirs as easily...
Once you get to the point you can kill spiders in korroloka tunnel that's the light at the end of the tunnel. Those are 25/30k a stack and sell reasonably quick.

Also, don't forget about fishing, I don't know the details but I'm sure you could make a pretty penny there somehow even at your level range.

I'm currently working on a guide to address this exact issue. It's a WIP, but here's a short version that I put together the other day that may be helpful to you.

What nation did you start in?

If you're in Windurst, do what is mentioned above my comment.

If you started in Bastok, I recommend taking all of your starting jobs and leveling them to 10 in Zeruhn Mines. You'll make a pretty solid chunk of change doing this. Bat Wings sell for 1k a stack and they sell pretty quickly. You'll also end up with Zinc Ore and the occasional Iron Ore as well, which also sell quickly. You can even take all of your jobs to 14 if you want to run all of them through Dangruf Wadi, where you can get Hermit Rings and Wild Onions. Vendor the Wild Onions and sell the rings on auction. Same with any goblin armor you end up with. I started with Monk since it was the quickest and easiest one to get to 10, then used my Hand-to-Hand skill on Thief and Warrior. From that point I did Red Mage and White Mage.

I don't really have any tips for San d'Oria, I've never leveled a character there. Maybe someone can help shed some light.

There are also a lot of things that you can buy on Auction that sell higher to a vendor. A classic example of this is low level Scale Armor pieces. You can often buy them for 200g on auction and vendor them from 270~. Helmet Mole, Vegetable Seeds, Grain Seeds, etc are also ones that I used quite often when I first started. Seeds are useless on Nasomi as currently gardening doesn't work, so people will list them on auction for virtually nothing when they could have sold them to vendors instead and gotten MORE.

Lots of repeatable quests and wise use of the AH and junk selling to vendors. I usually start out in Windy so I'm used to hunting the hares to turn in the lost mail pieces and stacking silk and crawler calcs. Both of those can be turned in in sets of 3 to the same repeatable quest NPC but the silk goes for more on the AH. AHing stacks of crystals early on is also normal as most people wait until later on with established Gil flow to start crafting(and leveling new classes lets you revisit the crystal intake again and again). By level 11, I'd had several thousand Gil as there really isn't much for some classes to buy(war doesn't need much in armor or weapons until then, but mages need to spend to buy the spell scrolls).

Look at you trying to increase the supply to meet your demand.

Farming is the best method. I started in Windy to fish because I figured moat carps would get me something but fishing is way different and slightly broken from retail so that was out. Silks are good if you can manage to sell a stack on AH but demand and such changes a lot. Beehive chips and wind crystals you get can get you some good money. Also if you happen to be in windy area go kill mandragoras is east saru. they drop cornettes and other "mandragora" items that can be turned into a npc in windurst walls for gil (200 per cornette, 250 for sulfur) and windy fame which can come in handy when you get to norg and want some ninja scrolls from quests there ( I think you need fame level 4).

Anyways that's what I have been doing. you can just tap into some low level jobs and level them up to 12/13 this way and benefit from conquest and crystals as well.

Edit: If you decide to go mandragora route for some xp and fame here is the list of quests and stuff you get for windy fame (Windy shares fame with Kazham and Norg) http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Cate ... nds_Quests

A real good thread here. The title isn't very informative but give it a shot :D

killing any beastmen type early on, can get you started with some nice gil. Just sell the items you get from anything to npcs and spam doing that.

If you want to start out as a mage for you first job it's very hard to farm to get spells and gear.

I say lvl thf, mnk, war asap to 12-14 solo to make it easier to farm gil for your mage classes.

Helps you fight mobs faster saving you time and effort instead of fighting as a mage for items to sell.
