I don't know what it is about this servers' population - if people know, but just don't care... or have been told and just ignore advice on how to improve a situation that's floundering. Some players here seem to lack the ability to pay attention to what they're doing: whether they're playing 2-3 games simultaneously, watching porn or what-have-you, I'm not sure. When you're solo, multi-tasking is fine... you're on your time and can do as you wish. But, when you take that invite, you're now sharing the clock with 5 other people. It's what happens during this period that has withered away my interest in ever making or joining a party again:
1. SUB-JOBS : LEVEL IT. This is by far the most rampant problem I see. Nobody gets a free pass, for whatever reason, to not have their sub level at least half their main job's level. If your tank can't get away with having WAR at level 5 simply because Provoke is the only thing they really need, then you can't simply level NIN to 12 because Utsusemi is the only thing your BLM (doesn't) needs - which brings me to my next point...
2. DAMAGE CONTROL: There's absolutely no reason why a BLM needs to /NIN outside of soloing and special occasions. Some might argue that dual-wielding wands isn't a bad idea, but, I've yet to see one use this sub for that purpose. If you're worried about pulling hate, that's what Blink and Stoneskin are for. And hey, save yourself some money in tools at the same time. In fact, if you cast those two spells at the start, and then begin throwing out nuke-bombs, you're much less likely to pull hate. When you fail to control damage output at key moments in the battle, it can throw everything off, and you become the object of the tank and THF's annoyance. It simply requires a little patience and situational awareness.
3. EQUIPMENT & SPELLS: This part isn't about what's best in this or that slot, HQ, or not having gear on-hand for a sync 19 levels below you - it's about having gear period, and that which is at least remotely relevant. One excuse I hear a lot is, "It's only my sub, what's the big deal?" If everyone in the party took up this approach toward equips, you can expect the result to be awful indeed. If you can't afford HQ, then there's absolutely no problem with that - I'd much rather have slots full of NQ on an experienced player than HQ all over an amateur. If you can't afford even NQ, I suggest you farm until you can.
Not terribly often, I've seen mages come to camp without essential spells. This is probably due to the aforementioned excuse about it "only being my sub-job, so why do I need it?" Coming to camp with a gimp sub is one thing... but coming to camp also without necessary spells on that sub is another. If you're unsure of which spells are needed, the short answer is: all of them.
4. DUAL-BOXING: I believe I saved the best for last with this one. There are a few that can pull this off without a hitch, and then there are many who couldn't d-box two MNK, let alone main healing and tanking simultaneously. In fact, most of the jobs require undivided attention during most instances. In theory, yes, if nothing ever went wrong, you could d-box fairly easily with most jobs. Obviously, that's never the case, and it's during those crucial moments that a RDM needs to be just a RDM. Unfortunately, the problems tend to arise because someone is attempting to divide their attention between two roles, and then things just fall apart.
Rant Over.
