Hi FFXI Community,

Is a well geared and fed Monk viable end game or are the skill chains {Too weak} ?

I would like to play a job that is not as popular as others to test it.

75 Monk here. Don't do it. Lol.

On a more serious note, I don't participate in any end game shell but I've heard monk is very niche.

If Salvage is ever released, everyone will level MNK to 75.

As it is? You're good in sky, and in sea for some things as mnk/nin and just tanking things basically. You won't really melee HNMs much.

Its "fine" for non-God sky NMs, sea farming that isn't jailers, Limbus floors that aren't Omega/Ultima, Dynamis that isn't being manaburned and merit parties.

MNK damage is passable but it doesn't have much in the way of utility compared to other strictly melee DD. Mantra is cool for zerging but I'm not even sure people use it here.

If Salvage makes its way to nasomi, MNK will be a hot commodity for it.

if you like playing Monk, then go for it. Just know that you’ll need to level a second job to be useful in some endgame activities. Most people go for more than one job to have that flexibility anyway.

Monk is a fun ass job to exp and I was super excited to finally get a black belt. That being said, I have not actually used my mnk for anything yet. Sucks that it's just not going to be extremely useful for many endgame things. Some jobs are just to have fun. And believe me, a properly geared mnk in exp is a ton of fun.

Well geared it's a great merit job to have, and you'll be doing a lot of meriting. Id definitely has a bad stigma leveling up tho, as I notice it gets picked last in dodge ball most of the time.

I'm having a lot of fun with my Galka Monk and the Dunes parties love me with my high HP and accr/atk food

I'll stick with it for now because fun comes first!
