I don't know how the FFXI community is doing nowadays (just started playing a few days ago) but given the game mechanics I can only assume is still as bad as before. just thinking about this made me remember an old FFXI video that always made me laugh and I wanted to share it with everyone, enjoy!

That MNK alliance looks like fun. I remember watching a Taru RDM that soloed Kirin so I looked for videos but couldn't find any (not even in Japanese search) so I guess he never made a video out of it, it took hours and it was really intense to watch the many times that he was close to death. But I found this Vrtra solo video instead, enjoy! :D
