Hi FFXI Community,

I am selecting 1 or 2 crafts only and going to focus on that. Which crafts are much needed for the economy of the server in your opinion?

I don't have help or a lot of gil but I do have a lot of time and currently leveling up 3 jobs to get as high as possible (for farming).

Thank you for your time.

Cheers,

~Rubi

No craft is really "needed", in that there are tons of crafters at this point. I'd say Bonecraft is probably the least flooded with crafters, but that's probably for a reason.

Leveling a craft takes a lot of gil and time. I'd choose carefully.

Thanks.

Indeed, I will choose something that I enjoy farming and doing. I know it'll cost a small fortune to skill up to make money back later on.
Perhaps Fishing would be a good start while seeking parties ^,^/

If you don't have it leveled yet, I would suggest a new player start with Fishing, and then use it as a jumping pad to level up a "production" craft much more easily.

Fishing will also easily pay for your jobs' expenses until 50+ at least, where stuff gets mightily expensive.

I focus mostly on the crafts I will use.... As a mage, primarily Cooking and Alchemy. They are good for making alot of your own consumables (food, oils/powders, even some meds if you take it high enough).

If you are going to use NIN alot, Woodworking for your shadows can be a big plus if you get it high enough to make your own bast parchment reliably (will allow some HQ on shadow tools). Alchemy, Gold, Smith, and cooking are all good to support NIN's other consumables too. A little Cloth and leather too if you want to make all of the tools.

If you will chew through a lot of ammo, Gold, Smith, Wood, and Alchemy will support Arrows and Bolts. Bone will go a little towards arrows too. Can skip bone and wood if you just need bullets though.

If you decide to main nin you're going to want woodworking. If you decide to main rng you're going to want alchemy. Nothing else really matters. They all profit and that's what's important. I wouldn't do cooking unless you really like synthing a lot of shit.

If you don't care, I highly suggest picking one that's stationed in your starter city, you end up going there more than you think and it's just annoying as heck having to run to another city for shit.

If you don't pick Alchemy and RP as a mad scientist then I just don't even know what to tell you at this point.

Yeah. I really should have named my alt after Terence McKenna instead of a pharmacy.

Goldsmithing because you make Gil really quickly desynthing drops in Davoi. It’s just expensive to get there.

Let's be honest. The reason most of us craft is GIL production. The secondary reason is space storage in game. E.g. take stacks of ingredients out instead of things that don't stack like juices. Last but not least is making stuff "at cost" instead of buying expensive stuff like arrows etc. #3 is actually just #1 but many people think of them differently.

It doesn't matter "WHAT" you craft so long as you make money doing it. So the idea of picking a craft is more "where are your profits?"

You should go farm stuff in the world and spend money to get every craft to about 10. For some there are instantly profitable things, like making bees wax from bee hive chips in alchemy. or for others things like making grass cloth from grass thread from yag necklaces in cloth.

Then target profitable recipes. in each craft. Make sure you look at the ah with the nasomi tool (under quick links) and price things out. Lots of desynth things are profitable like taking goblin armor and making cotton thread from it. Look at all of those specifically.

Things like low level gold smithing. Buying an item (often dropped from low level goblins) and desynthing it for copper or brass ingots. I think I got to level 9 GS on desynthing brass gear (level 1 or level 7 stuff) and circlets (the head bands) I profited all the way up.

Take time to buy things a head of time. Need sheepskin to make sheep wool to make wool thread? Start buying it now in single for 90 gil every single day. Put the items in /case or /sack or /satchel and save them for when you need them. Buying ahead means you can get things cheaper / when there are many of them and not when you HAVE to have them.

Look at doing this for every craft. That is keep a text file of the next profitable recipe in each craft and what you need for it. If you have funds look a head two recpies.

When you have a lot of these items travel to the craft place and get support and make the stuff. Target to be 5 to 3 levels under the craft recipe. Use advance guild support +3 or normal support +1 to do this. e.g. say you are craft level 13, you can look for a profitable craft between 16 (no support) 17 (normal support) and 19 (advanced support) pushing even to 20 (advanced support) if it is super cheap recipe / major profits.

* The different between wealthy players and poor players is mostly the ability to look a head and plan. Period. Get that trait down and you'll do fine.

* Slow and sure will make you more money than trying to get rich with a low percentage.
