I read on a gaming site that the servers for PS2 & Xbox 360 versions of FFXI were shutting down this month, and on pc at the end of the year. With that being the case, is there expected to be a large increase in players on this server?

Consoles are shutting down, but PC servers will remain active. There just isn't any more content coming for PC. At least, that's the last i saw. No reason for console players to be driven to Nasomi, so don't think we will see an influx.

yeah pc servers aren't going anywhere anytime soon, they are still continuing to add battle content and other random stuff virtually every month to retail at least until the end of the year. Since SE previously seemed to suggest there would barely be any updates after last November and there still is.. who knows what will happen next year! No further information on the announced mobile port as of yet.

If they put a true port of XI on mobile, I'd be in heaven. I think i read somewhere that it would be one xpac at a time, so maybe we'd see 75 era content again? Time will tell.
