Still relatively new to FFXI, my warrior is only level 10, but I have to say that compared to the other mmos I've played(FFXIV and GW2), I get much more satisfaction from leveling up and getting new equipment. Feels like my character is really getting stronger and I, as a player, learn more. I can't really pinpoint what it is exactly but this game just feels a lot more engaging.

This really is the essence of what makes FFXI great! Everything you accomplish feels great, its noticeable impact on your character. Progression feels valueable and meaningful. Thats been lost in the Genre for about... 15 years now. Glad you noticed this very early on, it only gets better from here.

It really gets me excited to see first time FFXI'ers falling in love with it and seeing the light!

yep , wait until you do some missions , quest , unlock things , open new areas, get the WS u have been waiting for (55 for most jobs ><) , or the spell that makes your job special , or the JA that changes how u play :3

There is a reason you get the feel of accomplishment when you level here. It's not easily given, it's a grind, but it's something you did. Other games it's so easy to level. Quests give more xp than mobs. You don't go out into the wild to kill but to quest. Here you have to kill to level. You have to grind. You have to work for what you get...but when you do. It's so beautiful. The quests are so more meaningful here as well. The whole game is just so different than anything else out there and it is a lost art. The best MMO period.

I actually didn't enjoy my first 2 weeks coming back because there was so much setup stuff that I needed to do again, twice, while dualboxing. Things like subjob, chocobo, outposts, etc.

However, if you're enjoying the start prior to getting your first lvl30, then you're REALLY gonna enjoy once you get your first job in the 50's where you start getting a nice amount of job traits/job abilities and start developing your strategies for making money

Iv'e been playing FFXI since it's Ps2 release. This game has ruined me for any other MMO ever. I've tried various free ones, DDO, Neverwinter, WoW, Guild Wars 1&2 and i'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Nothing will every compare to the first time i logged in and seeing San d'Oria for the first time. Hearing the music and my first party wipe. Trying repeatedly with my linkshell to win Promyvion - Holla and then one day it just clicked and we owned it. Seeing and hearing each new zone, trying to sneak around mobs without dying. Watching like 8 parties get MPK'd just outside of Khazam and laughing hysterically at all the deaths including my own.

This game really does reward hard work and team work which made it heads and tails above most MMO's even by today's standards.

Enjoy the ride, make some friends and have fun.
