Another economic change 4 years too late that is going to effectively widen the gap between vets and new players. I say that as someone its not going to affect because I don't really craft things for profit that require subs.
Prices are going to shoot way up on things that were a tier 1 or tier 2 that are now either a 0 or a tier 1.
Coming from a new player (been on Nasomi for 10 weeks or so) I agree with Viktoriya about how the prices will change and how it's going to widen the gap between vets and new players. I haven't been on the server for long but I've already made friends with quite a few vets who have taken up multiple crafts and I've been talking with them regularly about crafting on Nasomi and how it's been over the years and now, since the last 'update', how it has changed.
For me it's a little bit of a bitter pill to swallow watching a change like this because I KNOW that prices are going to go up and, for a casual player, I know what that means for me. When i started on Nasomi I looked at the state of the economy and though to myself "wow, this actually seems affordable". I was a very casual player during retail who could never really devote the time to be able to afford things like NQ Hauby, or Astral Rings. I know that sounds pathetic but I just really didn't have much time to play. Anyhow, this time around I was able to work my butt off for a couple of weeks and I managed to acquire some key bits of gear that I felt were a necessity for my Race and job class. It felt GOOD to know that I put in some effort and got a reward that was, in my opinion, game changing.
Then I watched as D ingots went from 350k to 500k in less than one month and thought to myself about how that's going to affect the price of the NQ and HQ Hauby. I even said to more than one person "you should buy all the Hauby+1 on the market if you can" or "If I could buy them up I would." Heck, I even asked for a loan to buy one or two as an "investment" (I didn't get it unfortunately). This was BEFORE the crafting update, this was just a result of my observing the change in the price of D ingot. And now I've watched the price go from 800k to 1.2M in 6 days. And it'll go up to 2M or so in time, I don't doubt that.
But not to sound like someone who is just complaining because I also know that I don't HAVE to have HQ everything, but it certainly was nice to see that they were within my reach. Part of the reason I'm chiming in on this topic is because I had decided this time around to pick up a craft that I hadn't tried before, I wanted to take up Goldsmithing. I know it's expensive, lots of people told me it was expensive, but I was willing to try. I leveled it up to 30 without spending a dime by mining my own materials, ok that's a lie because I bought some crystals along the way, but the materials were all farmed. And I really wanted to keep going with it, but I got discouraged. I watched as another crafter (post update) got 0.1 skill up in 50 synths on new moon darksday when they were 3 skill levels below the cap and I thought to myself "that's not affordable, I don't think I can do that." And it made me feel a little like it was all slipping away for someone who is a very casual player.
I wished I had started playing two months prior to when I did because then I would have been able to accumulate more or perhaps I should have started now when I didn't know "what it was like" before the changes.
I guess this post turned in to part rant and part lament. I know I should just suck it up and I will, I have already started thinking about how these changes will affect me and how I need to adapt to make them ok. But it's also crazy to think that this isn't a big change, because it is. I think it is going to affect the economy quite significantly and I do think it's going to make it much harder for new players to feel comfortable.
Anyhow, those are just some of my thoughts on it, it always sounds more eloquent in my head than when I try to write it out so I hope it's not too unbearable to read.
