If you're deadset on leveling PLD as your first job, just level WAR to 18 and get your SJ items. Level MNK to 12, and then level WAR to 37 as /12MNK. 15 MNK if you want 30 more HP for the 30 -> 37 WAR part.
Once you finsh WAR, or you can stop at 30 and be done for a while (in which case, definitely just do MNK to 12), unlocking PLD is fairly easy.
