 Post subject: No combat / spell audio

I have just returned after 2 years and have a fresh install.

I have music and combat music audio and weather audio, but I am not getting any spell casting, attacking, hit damage, or footstep audio from my character or enemies.

any idea how to solve this?

Check the nasomiconfig program under max sound effects make sure it's not set to 0

Possibly audio device driver needs updated, the only other thing in the game side is to check your game configs to make sure sound effect volumes are turned up, but it's definitely something whacky with "sound effects" from the client.
