Having an existing FFXI installation doesn't change the behavior of the nas installer. Did you extract the installer before running it?

Yes, I did. I'm running NasomiXI.exe from a folder that also includes NasomiXI.dat and v.20

I don't know what could cause it not to run the installer, sorry.

I just tried deleting it and re-downloading it to see if that made any difference. This time I noticed that when I run the unzipped installer after I tell User Account Control that I want to give it permission to make changes a small window appears approximately a second and a half later, but dissappears so quickly that I can't see any detail. The process NasomiXI.exe is still running after that but nothing happens until I terminate it.

My guess would be that this is exactly what was happening before but I didn't notice the small window because it is only there for a split-second.

I'm new to the server ,and I'm getting stuck on "Checking name and gold world pass" which leads to error FFXI-3113 protocol timeout error. Is new character creation down? D:

Edit : I dug around and found common questions. Sorry I did not know 3113 was name already taken. ^-^;

I've been accidentally leveling what is technically my "mule" as my "alt". Is this ok? I am just now seeing that the mule isn't allowed to do things outside of towns. Is there anyway to swap their alt and mule tags or is this ok as long as I leave my "alt" as a storage character?

Not OK. You cannot swap.
