There are a few easy to farm, and sell to NPC items. Some of the standard stuff you would have farmed like silk threads doesn't sell as good due to the limited number of crafters, and guild prices. There is a decent post on making gil on wikinas.

Some scrolls, and beastman gear drops sell for pretty good to NPC. I hear you though gear, and spells are crazy expensive, but if you can get 10-20k/hr selling to NPC, and set aside 5-10hrs a week farming, that 50k-200k/week.

Make friends, keep asking questions, and don't give up. Early game was always slow, and frustrating. You'll get there.
