I'm helping a friend with getting FFXI working after the update. We've tried checking/repairing the files a couple times, and are attempting it again right now. Here is what is happening.
1. Run Ashita as Admin
2. Hit 1 and login
3. it gets to "Applying Hairpin" and then closes.
The only thing that i've been able to find to indicate what's happening is in the Ashita Logs, it looks like it is not loading DirectX 8.
Here is what part of a known good log looks like:

Any one have any ideas? I've only found one post on the internet concerning a similar problem, but the fix there didn't help.
EDIT:
POL shows FFXI version 30161227_1
WHen checking the files it lists VTABLE.DAT needing to be repaired, as well as X\Playonline\squareenix\FinalFantasyXI\ROM2-ROM9\VTABLE#.dat
When clicking the REpair Files option, it reverts back to the PoL main page.
