I'm posting this as a help post for people so they don't do what I did and spend about 4-6 hours trying to fix their FFXI after updating with the latest single click installer.

After it finished installing, I loaded up FFXI and noticed a stutter or freeze every 2-3 seconds ... making the game basically unplayable. Well for the next 5 hours I tried literally everything from pulling out the mouse cord, to reinstalling windows 10, the game from the installer etc.

Finally after searching the web I found a solution that actually worked. If you notice this is happening after you update, open up the original FFXI Config Utility ... find the part where it says 'Enable Gamepad' and disable it! (assuming you don't use a gamepad).

For whatever reason, as soon as I did this and loaded the game up, everything was perfect again - no more glitches or stutters / freezes.

I'm guessing it defaults to being checked on when you use the installer or something and it wreaked havoc on me. I hope this helps others that encounter the same issue!

Good day!

I'm having a similar issue, about every 7-8 steps my character runs the game will hesitate/lag/freeze the game for a half second.

Where did you find that option? I'm digging through folders trying to find that config and haven't located it. I'm hoping this is my issue too - seems an easy enough fix.

Thanks in advance for posting this!

Well I found that config file and opened it up and mine was not enabled. So, yeah that does not seem to be my issue. That's unfortunate lol. Oh well, thank you for the post anyways

This happened to me and a few others in my LS. For me, I was "stuttering" every 4-5 seconds ONLY when my USB headset was plugged in (I've been using this headset for over a year without any issue). I use Windows 7 and this is how I fixed this problem:

Access your Start menu > search for Device Manager > click and expand "Human Interface Devices" > now right click ALL "HID compatible device" and click "Disable" (for me, there were 3 of these listed)

Now see if that helps. It doesn't? Restart your computer and repeat the steps. For some, additional "HID compatible device" present and once they were disabled the problem was resolved.

This may not work for everyone but has worked for the people that I have come across.

Yah -- after disabling all "HID compatible device" listed in device manager I was able to plug in all my USB hardware without any further issue.
