So I tried playing this about 9 or 10 months ago but every time after creating a character or logging in, it would display the "Downloading Data" screen for about a minute before giving me Error FFXI-3001. This was the same thing I dealt with last time and now I have a new PC and I was hoping I wouldn't have to deal with this.

I used the new installation process of directly downloading the 6 gig file to my browser, running the install.bat as administrator, and letting everything run it's course and once I got into creating the character, the same problem occurred. The hairpin fix is applied and I've tried resetting my character, every character I've made so far has had this issue actually, and I've tried opening ports and forwarding and all that. I'd really like to get this to work but so far I dont know what I'm supposed to do to fix this. If anyone has any ideas then please let me know.

Edit: Also yes, I have DirectPlay enabled and if it helps, the boot.exe client just consistently says "Sending key..." during the downloading data screen if that helps

Yeah, that was one of the first pages I ran into, clearing the user folder wasn't a huge help and "--hairpin" is already added to the profile, and I have waited for my character to go offline before but it didn't help. I'm currently waiting for it to go offline again so I can try again but I doubt it'll work.

Try using the unstuck feature on the account page, and then logging in again.

Okie Dokie so I haven't made any progress at all yet, but I think this time I'm not gonna give up, like, I'm genuinely curious about this game now and from what I've seen I think it could genuinely be a new addiction so I'm gonna keep trying to fix it, if for no other reason than trying to help other players who might run into this problem. Any suggestions for what to do are welcome but I've already tried pretty much everything

Do you run your network at home? Do you have any ports/services particularly blocked?

Yeah it's a home router connection if that's what you mean and I don't have any specific ports blocked

Do you have tethering on your phone? Try tethering your phone's net and trying. Or any other network, really. That way we can isolate it to your PC instead of your net.

I can't tether my phone really because I'd rather not have to jailbreak it and my data plan is kinda hecked up, (Thanks Verizon) and I'm gonna try with a direct ethernet connection to see if that helps. If not then I'm sure it has something to do with my net since this is a brand new PC. Last June when I ran into the same problems I was on a really old computer and it was still on Windows 7 and this is a custom built rig with Windows 10 instead and I'm having the same problems.
