Maybe this has been answered before..but I prefer controller on ffxi so i enabled that. In game however i cannot type with the keyboard. I can however alt+tab out of the game so that works. Any ideas why i cant type with my keyboard IG?

Try pressing Space before typing ingame?

it might be set to compact mode in the settings, i find on a fresh install if i don't backup my settings and restore them it's set to that by default. that disables the press-any-key-to-start-typing thing that the game normally had to my knowledge

I had a similar problem. The only solution i found was to alt-tab out of the game, then tab back in. After that you should be able to type normally.
