okay, i'm gonna try to type this again... (the damn forum logged me out after I just posted a novel and its gone) super frustrated right now!!

Okay, bullet points:

-Game is running like trash on default 1080 settings
-Can't see frame rate even after pressing F12 a million times
-Thought it was an internet issue, but it's not
-Brand new ASUS laptop - i5 processor 8 gigs ram intel UHD 6 graphics card
-Thought it would be able to at least run a 20 year old game smoothly
-I suck with computers

Just drop the d3d8.dll and d3d8.ini file in your ffxi-bootmod folder next to boot.exe (I had to change the zShadowFighting fix setting to "1" at the bottom of the .ini file to make shadows appear properly, but that's all you should ever have to change).

As for FPS, I don't think it's loaded by default anymore, so you have to type "/addon load fps" (without the quotes) once you log in, or add that command as a line in default.txt in your Scripts folder (pretty sure the addon still ships with the new launcher, just isn't running by default). You could also do "/addon load tparty" while you're at it.
