Lately, my central AC hasn’t been cooling the house properly, and I’ve noticed some strange noises whenever it kicks on. The repair costs quoted by the technician seem really high, and now I’m wondering if it’s even worth fixing or if I should look into a new system altogether. I’ve heard ductless systems are popular now, but I’m unsure if that’s a good move for a medium-sized home. Has anyone here gone through this decision before? I’d love some advice on whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

Repairing can sometimes be the right call, but it really depends on the age and efficiency of your current unit. If your AC is over 10 years old and the repairs are expensive, a replacement might save you money long-term. For those comparing options, this guide explains it well: https://resident.com/resource-guide/2025/08/13/central-ac-vs-ductless-which-is-right-for-you. It covers factors like home size, energy savings, and maintenance costs. Central systems are great for large spaces, but ductless can be easier to install and energy-efficient. If you plan to stay in your home for years, investing in a new system could be smarter than paying for repeated repairs.

My current AC is almost 12 years old, and the energy bills are creeping up each summer. Learning about ductless options and how they compare to central systems sounds helpful because I don’t want to keep patching an old system if replacement is more practical in the long run.
