Friday Night Funkin (often shortened to fnf ) is a free-to-play, retro-inspired rhythm game that has quickly become a pop culture phenomenon since its launch in 2020. With its simple yet addictive gameplay, humorous storyline, and vibrant creative community, FNF is more than just a game – it’s also a platform for thousands of mods, videos, memes, and user-generated content.

What is Friday Night Funkin?

Friday Night Funkin, often shortened to fnf, is a rhythm game developed by Ninjamuffin99, with support from artists such as PhantomArcade, Evilsk8r, and Kawai Sprite. It was originally created as a small project on the itch.io platform for Ludum Dare 47 – a short-form game development competition.

Players take on the role of Boyfriend – a blue-haired boy, trying to win Girlfriend’s heart by beating her dad in rap battles. Each level is a song, and your task is to press the correct arrow keys to the rhythm to “rap” your opponent.

Simple but extremely attractive gameplay

Although the gameplay mechanics of Friday Night Funkin are very accessible – just press the left, right, up, down arrows at the right time – the difficulty increases with each song, making the game challenging and attractive.

Accurate rhythm: You have to synchronize the keys with the sounds and images on the screen.
Score system: Rating based on accuracy – from “Sick” (great) to “Miss” (miss).
Funny story: Each opposing character has its own personality, from a grumpy dad to a devil, a robot, or even... a singing pizza!
