How does the value shown in the Status>Craft Skl. tab for fishing correlate with actual fishing level? I fished for a while and the number beside fishing got up to 11, and then next time I checked was back down to 1. I then looked at the profile for my character on Nasomi, and it said my fishing level was at 1.0 and had no number under rank. How do all of these values relate to each other, and what is my actual fishing level? Sorry if these are obvious questions, I'm a new player.

I can understand your confusion, theres a few things you should know about fishing and Nasomi.

First, the crafting skill menu can become glitched out occasionally and display random numbers. You can fix this by zoning. Also this menu does not display any progress youve made to the next full skill level. You can see a more detailed and 100% accurate report of your skill levels on the nasomi website under the account summary page.

Second, fishing reminds you what your current level is after every skillup. This can be weird, as it will tell you your skill has reached level 0 nine times before you finally reach level 1. Remeber, skillups are only 0.1 to 0.3 of a full 1 point.

The packet containing your current level is sent each time you gain any skillup, not just one that increases your level.

This confuses the client. The client only expects the packet after leveling up. The client automatically increases skill in the menu by 1 each time you get the packet.

Ignore the fishing skill in your menu until after zoning.

I used these areas, rod, and bait because I get annoyed when the fish I am skilling on isn't isolated (as in I only want to catch the fish that can give me skillups)

For all skill related glitches (capping too early, turning blue, just being wrong) I've found swapping a piece of visible gear usually fixes the problem.

4-11 is best done in Knight's well in Ronfare. Use composite rod with insect ball and fish up Moat carp for skill and gil (or turn in for 10,000 carp quest).

He already said that his route was more focused on skilling up on rod/bait combinations that only target the fish you want. That's not true for Knight's Well.

Sure, but you can save up for it. I started off on a Clothespole with less than 3k to my name but eventually I was able to save up money from NPCing fish and selling moat carps. Is it tedious and time consuming? Yes. Is it impossible? No.
