Can't get any Moat Carp in Windy with Clothespole/Insect Ball setup. Anyone found a way to catch the Carp?

Level might have something to do with it. But I've noticed type of pole has influence on the server as well. Maybe Composite? Halcyon?

Damn. I would love to test all of them, but I'm still fairly new & pretty broke. :/

Edit: According to Jei, you have to have fishing 5 to get Moat Carp.

Believe so. At first I couldn't even pull crayfish in W Ron. So Naimah sent me to Selbina with Clothpole and little worm which seems to catch exclusively cobalt jellyfish. Bite rate was horrendous, super boring and sleepy but I got my skill up to 2 (or 3) there. Then I moved back to W Ron with the same rod/bait. Still lost my catch due to lack of skill here and there but since crayfish bite rate was so awesome I only spent a few hours to get my skill to 5 and caught my first carp.

Thanks for elaborating. :)

From more testing, I think i have some actual suspicians. If anyone has evidence pointing otherwise, please let me know.

The Rod & Bait. Rod seems to have minimal impact on the vast majority of fish, while bait has the dominant impact. There does seem to be a sweet spot for a bait/rod combo though, and it varies by zone. So like, looking at insect paste, you can have carbon rod be the best rod for it in a zone, and it will 80% catch what it should. Then every other rod with insect paste will yield a mix of what it should, and other stuff.

The Range. Clearly we can't catch level 90+ fish anymore while being level 5. So there has to be a range that we can start catching a fish, and skilling off it. At this point, I think it's around 20, though it may not be the same for every fish. I've noticed at level 5 i could catch fish under 25 with general reliability. However if I were to target fish above 25, I'm getting no bites, or if I do, I largely lose them due to lack of skill. The first 10 levels may be different for this, though. Unfortunately(or fortunately) you level so fast past them it's hard to get enough results, and i wasn't particularly paying attention at that point, just happy I was fishing.

Any insight in to why I keep getting lack of skill messages when trying the spots that people have already suggested as places to start at 0 ? Using clothespole and little worms in bastok mines right now. Same tho in W Ronfaure, Port windy and Windy Woods.

You need to read this thread and not other fishing guide Rori. It's abit different here. Cobalt Jellyfish caps at 5, it's what you want to your first few skills.

W Ron you'll be catching Crayfish (7) and Moat carp (11). You cannot pull any of those at 0.

Thanks guys, got a halcyon + sabiki rig and started picking up quus and bastore sardines in port windy. Also using fishing gloves (cause they're super cheap).

I'm not sure this set works, i tried it with lvl 4 fishing, I was still getting skill messages in selbina. I didnt try it on carp, though.
