I've actually participated in a KRT pt on BLM and was told that I pulled my own weight. Because even if I wasnt nuking, I was sleeping adds, Enfeebling, and stunning so WARs could put shadows up. As long as the thing ran smoothly, I didnt care if I was blowing shit up or not.

Was it because you were the synch? I would put up with a lot for a synch for KRT.

I've been in KRT lately some, and it's underwhelming but staves help at least. I'm certainly better than some of the terrible DD's you still find in the early 50s but it's not exactly exciting either.

Solo'ing in Vahzl is pretty borked.

BLM are awesome and essential for at least half of endgame content. Every 75 BLM I know is in an endgame shell and gets fed every drop they need/want to do well, and they're the ones competing to take aggro on the big HNMs (except Kirin).

"BLM is bad" is a noob BLM thing. Most don't even use elemental weaknesses in parties. Those people can't pass fair judgement.

your basis is how BLM performs during endgame. This thread is about how BLM is vastly inferior to melee jobs in exp parties.
That said, if you don't see the disparity, pass me your doobie.

P.S.
BLM will (hopefully?) have pudding parties soon. You will find solace in that my friends.

Agreed, but even at end game you need hella merits and near perfect gear in order to be passable. I just want to be able to use my zenith mitts and still have a chance to land full damage.

Short of Nasomi straight up sharing the code for magic accuracy, I think it might be worth at least attempting to recreate the testing done here to compare it to retail: http://robonosto.blogspot.com/2008/12/o ... rates.html . If I can convince myself that clawing my eyeballs out while nuking EM steelshells in the Tree and/or earth eles in Sky ten thousand times sounds like a good time, I'll get a Google doc running on it or something to track results. I agree that it feels like you get way more half/quarter/full resists here compared to what I remember (even with a couple ele skill merits and decent gear, though I'm nowhere near cap yet), but it's been damned near a decade since I played retail seriously so it could just be those rose-tinted glasses kicking in again. The actual total damage numbers seem very much in line with 2005-2006-era retail when I pull up my old screenshots (e.g.: I remember needing some pretty pimped-out gear to pull off a 1k Freeze on a lv1 mob at lv51), so I'd like to try and focus on the accuracy aspect.

Couple of things.

BLM was always inferior to melee in EXP parties. Back in era people used it because we camped Crawlers and Crabs all the time, both of which have physical defense buff spells and most RDMs were too bad at their jobs to Dispel. If you had a properly geared party, meleeburning has always been faster than BLM.

The problem is that on Nasomi, BLM burns aren't really a thing. You can solo to 75 on Nasomi (I did it on BLM) but you can't do it off of pets, so it takes longer. So that's a problem.

I'm not saying that BLM operates as it should, because I feel it could be adjusted too. I know for sure that BLMs on retail hit Fafnir a lot harder than we do here. As for MACC issues, I don't really feel them except on TOAU mobs, which are overleveled. Then again I have 335 elemental skill, which is far more than most BLMs had on retail.

I have a policy of not discriminating against any job simply because I fiercely love this game from a nostalgic PoV and think everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy classic FFXI on whatever damn class that pleases them. I only care that people try to play their job well and put a reasonable amount of effort into getting gear and spells.
