Magic Burst doesn't mean "It does a lot of damage". It means it does more damage. A percentage more.

If you got fully resisted, your Magic Burst isn't going to suddenly do unresisted damage.

And what about the other times where I magic bursted Water II on the same mob, same level, same elemental skill and got 188 as my damage? So you are telling me that there is a resist rate that scales your damage all the way back to 1% on a resist? I promise you that literally never happened on retail.

It's literally every spell in the game that is offensive magic disposablehero. I've watched Burst II do less than 100 damage to lvl 60 mobs. It's not that the damage calculations are off, it's that resist rates are WAY too high. A 50% resist shouldn't be happening 50% of the time. It's rarer to do unresisted damage than it is to do resisted damage with how it currently sits.

Assuming all damage is rounded down when multiplied, you can roll a 2 on MB damage if a normal resist can give you a 2. 2*1.3=2.6. Floor(2.6)=2.

On the contrary, in the data set the odds of getting a fully unresisted spell is only 60%. Which means that 40% of the time the caster was getting resisted at 1/2 or worse... in conditions that are likely more favorable to landing casts than farming IT monsters. Without hard data, your emotions can certainly cloud how you remember these events. Outrage over a resist is much more memorable than the "expected" result of not being resisted.

uhhh... BLM is no where near as strong as what is displayed in that old post on Nas.

Will you ever learn to not talk about things you have no clue about?

On Nas?

correct..

BLMs on Nasomi would kill to achieve the rates experienced in that link.

Well then prove Nas' formulae are giving unexpected results relative to the data presented in the link - you'll end up saving lives. If it's so obviously incorrect then surely 500 actual casts will be more than enough. Right? Set up those same conditions with no staff and stream the testing.

So, what is my floor damage when I have the following stats?

Level 50 BLM | 56+14 INT | 150 Elemental Magic Skill | Water II | Level 54-55 Giant Bat mob type | Reverberation skill chain magic burst tier 1.

I don't see any way of working the numbers to give me a 2 damage outcome with any way you plug in those numbers.

I don't believe that would be time well spent, so that's a hard pass.

However you seem to have a hard on for empirical testing when there's no need for it, so I'd encourage you to do the same I guess.
