Hey there.

I don't post a lot in these types of threads, mainly because they get out of hand, but I did want to add my two cents here.

Nasomi, I totally respect the hard work you're trying to do when enforcing policies. I work in San Francisco as a policy manager for what some could consider a 'tech' company, so I'm quite familiar with the logistics and depth it takes to legitimately and faithfully make sure your users are following the rules and code of conduct.

With that said, banning and terminating users is a very difficult thing to do, especially when you're working with limited information. I, like you, use a lot of factors when determining whether a user needs to be banned based on their association to a bad seed. Things like:

-Are the accounts linked by IP
-Linked by device finger printing
-Banking information
-Credit card info
-Email, telephone number, basically any personal info
-Discernible patterns in user behavior
-And the list goes on

In instances where we have a number of accounts linked to one bad account, my job is to make sure those other accounts are thoroughly looked into before banning them based on their association to a bad account. If I was closing all accounts that are linked to one bad account without digging into each account thoroughly, I wouldn't be doing my job properly. Plus, I'd have a lot of angry users complaining when I may have erroneously closed their accounts; this hurts our business model and as well the community at large.

Some of these people you banned are genuinely good people. I've partied with a number of them and they have only been kind and helpful to me. I am saddened that some of these 'good' players got mixed into a group of bad players simply based on their IP association. While I appreciate the work you do to maintain a cheat-free server, I really must contend that if you banned innocent players without thoroughly looking into each account, it is hasty and lazy work on your part. I know you don't have the time to look into each account thoroughly, but you are banning innocent players who have put months--maybe years--of their time into your server. If you don't have the time to look into each account, you may want to consider creating a team to help you with the process. One man can't do everything himself; I would certainly fail miserably if I didn't have my own team. I'm sure people would be willing to help you if given the chance.

Yes your JOB is to do that, this is a hobby for him that we all enjoy for FREE. He shouldn't have to sift through hundreds if not thousands of lines of logs to prove someones innocence when they are all clearly linked with cheaters. They should blame the shitters in their group that ruined it for the rest of them.

This is a thoughtful response, other than trying to draw a parallel between your situation and Nas. You work for a company that presumably tries to make a profit (I realize many tech companies don't actually achieve that goal, but let's pretend yours does).. That part at the end about having a lot of angry users complaining, and hurting your business model? He doesn't have that. He doesn't have a business model.

He's not trying to keep everyone happy, or make a living. The sooner people accept that Nas isn't here to make you happy, the sooner you might find ways to enjoy this server. Nas likes running a FFXI server, and you like playing on one. That's basically the extent of the relationship.

If all it takes is the volume of an incident to be too overwhelming and cumbersome for Nas to throw innocence out the window and mass ban, the integrity and security of this server and our accounts is greatly in question.

My point is that some of these rules need an asterisk next to them stating (Don't log into your account while with a friend because infractions will not be looked into per each account, JUST IP). They need to be amended and updated.

I understand he doesn't WANT to, but if hes going to run a game people dump thousands of hours of there real time into he probably should, or have a team that does.

what is different about what you just typed and what I quoted directly from the rules page?

Welp.. Do with that information what you will, I guess? It's not a new development. It's been written on the rules page for years.

I understand that its pretty clear, but it should include examples of what still falls under this scope. Being banned simply because you've played with them in person before is straight trash.

I've been doing this for 6 years now and it's always the same.

You don't follow the account limit rules. They're spelled out in plain english. Then you say you don't understand english as an excuse. It's not an excuse.

You say you're 150 people, when in reality it's closer to 50, and just want to use many accounts or circumvent account rules.

You connect from the same ip. Hundreds of accounts from one ip. If you were to follow the forum account > 3 game account setup I might have a chance at telling you apart, but you don't.

You lie and cheat, then are caught, then blame it on not understanding english. You understand it well enough to have a conversation, you understand it well enough and choose to simply disregard the rules.

Some of you are completely innocent. For those that are, I am sorry. However I don't have 4 months to comb through millions of lines of logs only to come to an inconclusive conclusion where you say "I'm not him. I'm me" yet do nothing to differentiate you from him. "oh but it's my 3 separate forum and game accounts and those are his 3 separate forum accounts and game accounts." I only can make a determination based on the facts that are available to me.

A cheater and an innocent will say "I'm innocent", so I cannot take your word for it.

i believe Nas is a reasonable person (maybe). so you gotta give him solid proof, not words Yasuo best of luck man

He literally lists this as a risk if you share an account with a friend. He doesn't know if your friend logged in at your house or if you logged into a friends account at your place. You were caught cheating therefore his account is compromised because of your shit judgement. Why should he have to worry about the burden of proof with innocence when it comes down to you being the issue?

Thats...why...his...system...is...flawed... You are missing my point, when it comes to something that takes thousands of hours to complete your system should allow for an appeal process or SOMETHING, ESPECIALLY with people who were actually innocent. Blatant evidence like not being able to execute an exploit due to not being able to enter the area in the first place should be more than fucking enough. How is this a hard fucking concept to grasp.

You know this system is broken because this time last year the server was approaching 1500-1800 online at any given time where it has a hard time creeping past 950 lately. He is killing off his most dedicated players, and all of your hard work will be for naught when noone is left.

Anyways I'm done. You can rejoice in my exit from this thread, because holy shit arguing with people still on the server is a dead-end. You will blindly follow this guy and his flawed methodologies until you're outside the box looking in. Good luck.
