It's terrible for the gaming industry. Konami is basically in the process of shifting from making video games like Silent Hill and MGS to making mobile games and slot machines. Then again, legal gambling is now called "gaming." There's also a big push to get betting in video games.

As long as the player knows their limits and plays with in them gambling is a fun hobby. Personally I'm more of a fan of physical card games with minimal computer chips involved. You never truly know how those machines are coded.
One thing you probably shouldn't do is go to an online casino posted in a random forum like this by someone the same day they joined.
