I've felt for awhile now that SAM is underrated for soloing. SAM/NIN for more dangerous things, SAM/WAR for less so. Can duo a ton of stuff with a RDM/WHM dbox.

As for best at soloing, personally I would rank RDM as #1 and DRG/BLU as #2. The reason I rank DRG/BLU as #2 is because RDM can pretty much indefinitely kite/nuke/DoT a hefty amount of things. DRG/BLU is very strong and fun ; with access too things like Cocoon, Pollen, Magic Fruit, and some other defensive spells coupled with your wyvern's Healing Breath you can solo a ton of stuff.
