I usually make the party myself with my plvl or join one then try to make the party awesome regardless of the setup.

But I don't bother asking usually about the setup or sync, its a bitch trying to make a elite party sometimes. Time is money especially when you're limited on playing time.

Not really, if it does look like a terrible party just say your piece and leave.

Otherwise if I'm playing a high demand job like Corsair or something and have three invites on the go, then yeah sure I'll probably ask to see which is "best"

So I feel like this was something that was standard practice on retail, but have been getting more and more replies like "fuck off".

I'll imagine in the retail days people didn't know wtf they were doing, so that makes sense.

I partied to 75 without making any of the parties and probably ~5/30 parties were bad enough to be noteworthy. If you have enough experience to feel comfortable critiquing someones setup before you take the invite, you should probably just be making your own party. I personally wouldn't want to deal with a nit picker myself. Just take the invite, and if you have BST/DRG/THF/NIN/WHM/RDM, maybe just leave.

I get it though, I've been in a couple godmode 40k/h merit parties and it feels incredible. And to go from that to 12k/h feels bad man. It's better to consider the 40k/h parties the exception instead of the rule else the usual XP feels spoiled.

Boy do I have some news for you. We're 18 years after initial launch and people on this server have no idea what they're doing.

So nearly 20% of your PTs were so horrid you made note of them. May I ask what job you were on during this time?

So it's less of an asshole move to join the PT, say your setup sucks to the entire PT than just ask for setup and then respond accordingly?

I think you're misinterpreting why I ask for setups. I don't care if your PT is not 40k/hr(which isn't even doable at most levels but I digress), I care if your setups max is only 8k/hr.

Personally I don't ask but I've definitely turned down offers based on the party lead job/rank etc. While I don't really mind being asked about party composition, I do get slightly annoyed when inviting a thf or a blu or something and they asked about party composition. Like dude... I'm already scraping the bottom of the barrel by inviting you, the composition is obviously not meta. Not that I would tell them to fuck off, it just gives me an instant bad impression. Obviously I understand completely if a high demand job like a brd wanted to know more before joining so they could weigh their options.

It does seem a bit more rude to join and then leave after seeing the composition, rather than asking beforehand and declining. So if people only want a good/great setup, they should ask before accepting. Personally, because I don't ask, I have a bad habit of joining just abysmal setups and trying to make the best of it by bringing a PL. Usually these parties are newer players so I feel like I'm helping them out at least.

I usually just accept, check out for myself and just go with it. I'll give it an hour, if it sucks I'll rep myself, but mostly it's not as bad as you thought it would be. Usually mining or watching Netflix when xp'ing anyway so it's not a total time waste if it's not amazing.

I do dislike when you get an invite from someone who's anon though, that's the only time I'll ask for setup.

People sending invites without giving an overview of level sync, party set up, PL situation and camp choice are straight-up scrubs tbh. This was absolutely commonplace back in retail, minus the PL bit.

Act like you belong, this isn't allakhazam private server.

if I can't figure it out within a minute of joining, I will ask.

sometimes the party talk is intentionally lazy and you're expected to be in the know just by looking at your pt list, recognizing people, and guessing with /sea jobs on /anon players. sometimes this is a dangerous assumption with stupid people, but a significant amount of uncertainty and inference is often desired.

There are far too many variables in dynamics to accurately determine the effectiveness of a party based on its setup alone. It only takes one unprepared member to undermine an otherwise enjoyable experience. Instead of asking the setup, you'd probably be better off judging by the rank of the leader, and by the total of rank in the entire party. I would have my hesitations about joining an optimal setup whose total rank was <25, and would feel much better about joining a non-classical setup whose rank was >30. When I join a Dunes party, it's not the setup that sends shivers down my spine, it's all the R1 & 2's.
