If you're taking up a mage job, I recommend just taking a month break and do nothing but fish and watch Netflix. Because you're going to need over a million gil just for spells.

Most spells can be done with a quest. It's only extremely expensive if you're lazy.

There's a few outliers like Refresh but questing gets you most of them.

Definitely use this as a learning experience. There are spells you can skip and there are spells you just need to stop xping until you get, or ensure that you're syncing to a level below where you could use them. IE a 44 RDM should either stop xping or sync below 41 if he doesn't have refresh. Poor gear is more easily forgiven than not having a key spells. The important thing is just not making the mistake again. I'm a little surprised someone in your party didn't offer to buy and bring it to you using an alt (seems like good odds at least 1 of the other 5 people would have this capability) if you were obviously new and just made a mistake/broke. Gotta help new players not just degrade them.

my advice would be to go to the auction house before seeking party and go to the scrolls and look for any that are yellow. Those of the ones that you don’t have and are able to learn already. Take note of those and get them all. This would’ve tipped you off to missing Silena.

Don’t beat yourself up over it, but learn from it. It’s one mistake and there’s nothing you can do about it now. In the grand scheme of things it’s not that big a deal as long as you learn from it going forward.

Good advice, but I want to add that you shouldn't buy them from there. All of the spells except for a handful are purchasable from NPC vendors and will be cheaper than the prices you find on the AH. This goes for all mage jobs, not just WHM.

Yes, those that are NPC vendor only will always be cheaper at the vendor. Usually scrolls that also drop from enemies will be cheaper at the AH (and affordable due to high supply).

Due to intense competition for the scroll reseller market, prices at the auction house are surprisingly low, though. Do some research and decide if it’s worth your time to travel to the NPC. Or you could plan out ahead of time and pick it up while you’re in the area already.

I was going to point out that Concep would prefer you just shop at the AH. Or at least.. use to prefer it, not sure if still does ._.

I retired when competition grew to be too much and prices fell too far. I also just don’t want to spend 10 hours a month buying stuff from NPCs and listing on the auction house.
