I think this post is silly. If you don't like the price, don't buy the product. That is how supply and demand works. Go farm Argus if you don't like the price.

I removed the poll since it was counter productive in what I was trying to say. This is about etiquette and how I feel the market and economy of a small server shouldn't be abused and a AH bug taken advantage of.

I do intend to farm Argus later on just like I did for my leaping boots.

What bug are you talking about? You could always post infinite items.

Items never get kicked back at you after being listed for 30 days like the in game text says. Also people can only carry 1 item that is rare per type unless they list it on AH for whatever amount then you can skirt this by using the AH as infinite tax free storage. I believe these two things were not implimented as intentional but I guess I could be wrong. Either it's a bug or design flaw in my opinion

From the conversations I've had with Nasomi about this topic, he has made it pretty clear that the auction house is set up exactly how he intended it to be. It isn't an accident/glitch/bug.

I took something very important away from the experience. It made me really realize that it can be bad for business to have GMs and/or developers with a stake in in-game affairs.

Items do come back in the AH it just takes a few months.

That said, I think price 'speculators' in a game with a relatively small population are acting scummy. Seasoned players already have a boatload of perks from being around so long (got to level in ToAU, which gave them easier access to Walahra turban, insane drop rates in dynamis for free, among other things). Manipulating the market because they have the capital to do so is just wrong and ultimately detrimental to the growth of the server.

Well I can see how people can get upset over this. But I wouldn't call it wrong. It's just market speculation, like Gwei suggested.

A better approach is to fix Argus, if you say it's broken.

In regarding to the PCC, its not really "speculating" when you have inside information that Argus was returning to its normal spawn conditions after months of being on a reduced timer for whatever reason. There was no "Guessing" here, this is an ethics problem and looks incredibly bad on a server where a contributor to the development is involved in something like this. No amount of coming on these forums and trying to play politics is going to change the fact that other people knew what was going on and ratted your ass out.

Well, you didn't rat me out as I was neither hiding nor breaking any rules. You actually don't know what's going on either. Let me explain:

I was buying PCC before I knew argus was broken.
I was buying PCC after I knew argus was broken but before nas knew
I was buying PCC after nas knew it was broken and before the fix
I was buying PCC after it was fixed
I've just been buying a lot of PCC.

On a server where 75% of your gil can just vanish one morning, it pays to have a large position in tangible items. Mine is nearly a hundred million, with the PCC as the high-risk/high-reward component. Maybe Nas wanted the argus spawn time that low, maybe the server goes to 2k population and PCC price increases without a respawn fix, maybe Argus breaks for 9 months like simurgh did and PCC go to the moon, maybe it gets changed to a peacock amulet, maybe the server closes down tomorrow. I don't know what the future is going to hold, but at 100k/charm the possibility of favorable outcomes outweigh the possibility of negative outcomes better than anything else I could be buying/synthing for a long term trade-- so that is where I direct my money.

I think the observant people looking at this situation understand the timing does not line up correctly for insider trading. This is not an accident on my part.
Whether server rules or AH changes should be made to encompass speculation is another matter entirely, but I think I'll sit that discussion out.

This isn't entirely on topic, but I think I need to make something clear: Nas is his own man. The only reason the contributions I make are accepted and used are because they are in line with what Nas wants to be happening anyway. I don't like the entire toau expansion being level 99, but trying to persuade Nas on this point gets me no further than anyone else. Maybe he has plans to normalize it when the server pop goes higher, maybe there is a longer term solution in the works, maybe it's just going to stay that way. I really have no idea. The vast majority of what I assist Nas with he could just as easily handle himself IF he had the time to pour into it. He's off fixing X Y and Z stability issues that I don't even fully understand, so I'll try to cover the easier stuff as best as I can. Don't give me too much credit.

Honestly, you can drop the "private" server bit at this point. It's no longer a small nitch community, and hasn't been for some time now. At 20-60 players it's a community, and this stuff still came up back then. Now there's over a thousand players, and expecting that many people to get along all the time is impossible. This economy is also far more stable thanks to the sheer volume going though it on a regular basis.

I remember when I first leveled cooking, I had the corner on kabobs and yag drinks. Then other people leveled and the price wars began. Supply and demand is going to come and go in waves, it's only natural. Those that want the PCC will camp, those that can afford it or farm other things might buy it instead. This feels way more retail like than anything else, only the Chinese aren't controlling the market.

Sure what deadwing is doing is a bit dickly, but you can react by not purchasing is goods or going through the effort that he is to combat his actions in game by yourself. He clocks quite a few hours in the game, trying to accomplish the same without the time invested will be impossible. This game isn't caters around everyone gets a trophy, but when you do get your trophy, it feels damned good. That's why I like this game. It's what separates it from all the others.
