Well, I for 1 don't want to spend that amount of gil, it feel like a rip off seriously for something so mandatory to have. I simply gave up leveling Rdm and I'm sure many are in my same shoes.

Can't be mad at the guys selling it for where they are pricing it. For the amount of time it takes to run around killing OWNMs and actually getting the drops they have to sell it at that much for it to be worthwhile. The only reason they aren't worth that much is because of the expectation of BCNMs eventually getting fixed.

This is a private server, not retail FFXI 2003/2005. BCNMs dont work, population is like 1/10 of what it was back then. Refresh and Utsusemi:NI are mandatory spells for RDM and NIN. Without them being avaiable for level 40 characters for a reasonable price at a NPC we are at the mercy of a few rich people in the server. While i can understand that being the cause for endgame items like cursed gear/sky/whatever, its ridiculous for things like Refresh and Utsusemi:Ni.

I think the best way to avoid this is to make a NPC selling them for lets say 200k each. Make the NPC permanent and all those who are hoarding these spells to make millions of mid level characters will quit in rage. You are making many more RDM and NIN reach endgame. As a new player in the server i decided to give up on RDM entirely and it was my favorite job on retail at CoP era.

I don't think that making a new player give up on any job due to ludicrous prices on BASIC spells is healthy for the server's future. But thats my opinion and im only sharing because i really appreciate the job done here by the owner of the server who made our dreams of FFXI Zilart/CoP possible.

Couldn't they just create a rare/ex version of the scroll to be sold by NPCs?

I agree that OWNM are bad, but my anecdotal experience from NA release was that we didn't expect RDM and NIN from the "first wave" to 75 to have those spells like Ni, Refresh, Dispel, Erase. And they were "only" about 500k and noobs could farm fire crystals for 3-5k per stack so they weren't necessarily that hard to get. I actually remember the first time I got refresh cast on my blm was at Knight Crawler camp in the tree, that's what... late 50's?

My point is that we just have to adjust our perceptions and cut the rdms + ninjas some slack if they don't have an insanely expensive [thing]. Refresh would be nice for those mages, but honestly I see most parties struggle to get to chain #2 because there is a carefree attitude to partying here where people go afk during pulls or take a full 30 seconds to even draw their weapon because they are watching TV. Refresh is only really meaningful in aggressive parties that can make that chain #4+

To answer the other question nah, BCNMs are not up yet.

I'll put my 2 cents in as well.

My favorite job is RDM (here and on retail) and I just recently got to 40 RDM (I don't have a lot of time to play, but love the game and this server when I do). For the time being, I've shelved leveling RDM because I don't feel I'd be adequate at the job without Refresh. If the solution is to make the scrolls purchasable from NPCs for ~200k, I'll research the best things to farm for at that level and I'll eventually make the gil.

Maybe another solution is to make other mobs drop the scrolls. Getting a group together and taking down a bad mother is the most satisfying and fun way to earn big rewards like these scrolls. I'd definitely rather do it that way, but until something gets figured out, I'm leveling up WHM and BLM and catching up on missions. Trying to save up gil while I do all that.

Indeed, that would solve the problem for new players and avoid having veterans exploit it.
