It's a ranged job for most things, and it's correctly now a ranged job. Spending a lot of time in something you know isn't working correctly runs the risk of having that time proven wasted, aside from the things gained while it wasn't.
It was working correctly before (or rather, actually it was underpowered technically because of the ammo bug). Adding yalms to the ranged formula isn't "fixing" RNG, or making it work "correctly". It's re imagining it to an era that no one particularly likes.
